Started out two-up/one-down, moved to one-up/two-down, and then settled in to 1/1, where Iíve been for the last few years.

1 up 1 down on my larger acoustic kit, 1 x 10" down only (with a 10" snare) on my other acoustic kit.

e kit is 2 up 1 down but i use the 2nd rack tom as percussion or a 2nd ride as much as i use it as a tom

Mine are 3 in a row directly to the right of the snare. I don't have any acoustic kit experience and the setup I have isn't super flexible in terms of positioning. It seems to work OK.

I need an extra tom to put me in too many to count. That's where I feel I belong
Roland TD30 module on TD20 kit SD3 with various kits. Pearl Masters Kit, Yamaha 9000RC original natural wood finish. Cymbals from Zildgian Pasite and Sabian. Loads of percussion bits. Cubase and Wavelab always current versions.

I run 1 up, 1 down, but I have a 10" DIY auxiliary pad mounted sort of halfway between where a second tom and first floor tom would be if it were a 2 up or 2 down. Depending on the kit, it is sometimes set as a middle tom, an 808 snare, handclap or tambourine. Gives me the best of both worlds and it being such a small pad means I don't need to move anything out of the usual 1 up, 1 down positions to have it there.
