  • How to breakdown the MDS-3C

Hi, I need your expert advice if the MDS-3C can be broken down into smaller pieces for air travel and probably fit it in a 28" x 18" x 18" box.

I'm planning to buy a TD3-SW in the US and fly it back home. I noticed that the MDS-3C is pre-assembled and simply folded in a 36" (long) x 30" (Wide) x 7" (High) box. Normally this is not allowed on commercial planes.

    Thanks
    TD3-SW. Newbie on vdrums.

Yes, the rack can be pulled apart completely using a simple drum key. Whether it'd fit into a box that size I'm not sure but I'd guess with some clever jiggert-pokery it would. You can always lie the longer bars diagonally. Anyone know the height of the uprights?

The upright poles are 31.5 in. without feet or end caps.

Hi ige87 and jgermanich. Thanks so much for the information. I just need a creative way to fit the 31.5 inch upright poles in a suitable box.

Buy a set of golf clubs or skis and ship back with them.

If the box is 28x18, that may well be long enough. Cant remember pythagorus at the moment, I'm sure you can work it out.

But as far as I understood, you are still liable for tax at customs?

That's correct. I think it's around 18% of the invoice value

Hi Guys. Just got my TD3-SW. Thanks for all the advice. I'm excited to set it up but I'm just too tired. I guess you all had the same experience when you got your first Vdrums.

Too tired? Too tired? What does that mean? You'll be even worse when it gets to 3am once you've set it up and you can't stop playing it! Congrats on the new kit!

That is so true. The first time I tried it was around 11pm. I let go of it at 3am. Coming from a Yamaha DD55, the quality of the TD3 is by far more than a mile. If I can only not go to work and play with this kit the whole day. I'll think of the upgrades later. Reading this forum makes me want to buy more stuff.
