I came across a post on another drum forum and thought I would share here, as it's such a good resource.
Rather than try to describe it I'll just copy and paste Bob's post here...

We just wanted to let all of you drummers know we have a new digital, interactive, 100% FREE, 2400+ pages drumbook/encyclopedia out called Level 1. You can download it for free here:

This may seem like shameless self promotion, which it of course is, but we hope that the fact it's free and educational will mean it's appreciated on VDF nonetheless. After all, who doesn't like free education?

Level 1 is gonna be updated annually so if you have any suggestion how to make it better we'd love to hear them.

We'll be sure to check in here from time to time so let's get a nice conversation going. Since it's been quite busy we can't make any promises as to the frequency of visits, but we do our best :-)

We hope you all have a great day and enjoy Level 1!

    Best regards,

I got the download and started to look it over. It is pretty comprehensive, with a lot of material.
I agree with his philosophy behind this project and will support it!
