  • Roland DT-1 Drum Tutor Notation Help Needed

I'm starting out as a drummer and I'm trying to use the wonderful DT-1 software to try to help my learning process along.

I love the blue circle/red cross feedback while you play, but I'm having an issue with the ride cymbal that hopefully someone here can help with.

It seems that whenever there is a pattern which includes the ride cymbal, that most of the time when I play the ride, I get both a blue circle and a red cross over the ride cymbal note.
Now being a beginner, it is most likely down to a technique problem on my part, but unfortunately I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

Could I possibly be triggering the bow and one or both of the edge/bell triggers at the same time hence the blue circle and red cross feedback? Could there be a problem with my module settings?

Are you sure you're not double hitting?
What module are you using? If you can snoop the Midi data going out of it when you hit the ride, you may be able to spot 2 midi notes (one too many - that the software interprets as an extra hit).

      Thanks for the reply Greg.

I'm using the TD-4 module. How can I snoop the midi data to see what's being sent out?

I'll close attention to my technique next time I play and make sure I'm not double-hitting too. Thanks for the tip!

If you're on a Mac, you can use a program called MidiMonitor (it may come as part of your Mac install). On Windows I don't know - you'd have to google it out.
