    Using headphones with monitor?

    OK, anyone like me?...when using the headphones with my V-drums, I like the 'feel' of the drums (especially bass) by also using a monitor. That way, I get the great sound through my ATH-M50 headphones (minus the sound of sticks on rubber/mesh) plus the feel of the sound through the monitor, a much richer drum experience. I plug the headphones into the TD-11 module and connect my Simmons DA200s to the module too. So far, so good...

    Problem is this, though: if I plug the headphones into the monitor instead, I can get the drum sounds through the headphones with play-along songs from my laptop (connected via AUX to the monitor); I can even hear the drum sounds and songs simultaneously through two Mackie satellite speakers attached to the monitor, but I can't get this set-up:

    > Drum sounds and play-along songs through the headphones while also getting JUST the drum sounds out of the DA200s monitor (drums only, not the song track).

    Is this even possible? Does anyone else even care about such an arrangement? Or, is it just me? It seems ideal to me, but so far unattainable.

    That, is what a mixer would be good for. That is also what could be termed the start of a gas attack.

      OK, mixer then. Any recommendations for what to buy? I'm not bringing in other instruments at this point, so it's just me, the drums, and Itunes, but may get an SPD-SX at some point.

        Consider getting a http://pearldrum.com/products/kits/e...hrone-thumper/ - I have a similar setup as yours, ATH-M50, DA200S... I mistakenly discounted the thumper as a gimmick before, but when I got my hands on one (xmas gift!) I could not believe how great of a feeling it provides in conjunction with the ATH-M50s.
        It's not exactly cheap, but if your goal is to try to "feel" your kit, it may give you a good bang for the buck.

          Funny you should ask, I just posted for sale a Yamaha MG82CX. I found it to be perfect (at the time) for what I needed it to do. Then GAS happened and I needed more inputs / outputs and such.

            I would be interested in buying that Yamaha MG82CX. How much are you asking?

                  Not tricky just a hassle and expensive. You should be able to find a decent mixer local though.

                For anyone else interested in using V-drums with headphones plus the added oomph of a monitor, I found that a Behringer xenyx 802 mixer does the trick for around $75. I can play along with song tracks from my laptop (hearing both drums and track in my headphones) and meanwhile I get the added oomph from my 200W monitor without having to hear the song track also blaring out of the monitor. A nice simple solution, I think, solved by someone in the live sound department at my local music store.

                  Yep, that will do it. I just upgraded to a xenyx 1832. It's pretty awesome with some room for more stuff later. I really had to think hard before going Behringer but, For the price / options it could not be beat. Reviews were not bad and the folks at Sweetwater said Behringer has changed quality wise in the last couple of years. Besides, The Yamaha I wanted has not made it out to stores yet. I will wait for the next GAS attack which are comming a lot slower now thank goodness. LOL

                    I'm not sure about the TD-11, but the TD30's MIX IN that can be routed so that it goes to headphones and not MAIN (and then to an amp). No need for a mixer to achieve the OP's desired outcome.

                      I see nothing about the 11 or 15 having sound routing capabilities in their manuals like the 30 does.
                      Of course there are other ways to achieve the outcome but none would be as clean or controllable as a mixer. Besides, mixers are useful for so many things that one might want to add later AND they look really cool!!!!!!!! LOL
                      Just my opinion of course. YMMV.
