I have had a TD9 for about 5 years. The cymbols suffer from loss of sensitivity resulting in misfires, for want of a better word. I upgraded my hats to the type that go on a hi-hat stand, but are really disappointed with their sensitivity as well. Any ideas??

Take this at your own risk but look for some YouTube videos on cleaning the cymbals. The rubber does eventually fall apart and you can get a build up of little pieces around the edge that will cause trigger and choking issues. If you are sure you can no longer use them you might try this.
