  • Good, compact rack?

    Hey-oh!

A thought just came into mind - racks? Well, both kind tbh, but let's focus on the drum racks for now. As some of you might now I'm starting a A2E this month that will slowly be completed, expanded, upgraded and bla bla bla, and since I'm trying to make a quiet kit as possible I though a rack would decrease at least some vibrations from the snare, toms, and such that travels through the floor, it might not be a problem in the first place anyways but a good looking rack really takes the kit to the next level so I'm using that for an excuse.

But I've got NO clue about racks (the drum kind), do you have any nice, sturdy compact racks to recommend? I found a used Yamaha DTXtreme II rack on eBay that looks really good, but it doesn't ship to Sweden unfortunately, thought it would be a nice edition since I'm gonna go with a used DTXpress 4 module and Yamaha cymbals in the future.
Is there any racks close to the Yamaha one or such?

And keep in mind that I cannot have a rack like the Pearl PD-80 or such since it would take too much space, I basically need to fit an acoustic kit to a e-drum rack, if that's possible.

Hope you understand my rambling, it's the middle of the night.

    Thank you in advance!
    //Mike.

Because you are talking A to E, I would look at something Gibraltar and just watch your tube sizes if you are space challenged. I think it would be a good rack, because of the weight of, I assume, full sized shells ?

      One word only: Stealth !

[okay, I will admit this was overly dramatic!]

      But seriously:
If you look for a compact rack, have a look at the Yamaha RS-40. Cheddies uses one, he can tell you more!
I would surely recommend you a Roland TD-4KP Rack, IF that was available as a spare part/on its own (...not sure).

And then of course: Any Gibraltar rack! - the Stealth, the GRS-400C, whatever the names are. The beauty of them is total customisation! So if a vertical tube is too short, you can change it. If the horizontal front-tube is too long, you can change that, too!

Ah yes, the stealth system looks great! And yeah, it's full sized toms (for now, might cut them or change it in the future) but that stealth set-up with a mounted snare basket and a dual tom mount (I'm actually ordering a dual tom mount since I won't be using a kick drum) seems to be rather awesome, the tom mount I'm ordering also had room for a cymbal arm to be attached to it without having to buy any extra stuff, that would let me get rid of the tom mount base, snare stand base AND a cymbal stand base, and it's not too expensive either!
I'm totally sold, lol. I think I'm definitely getting one of those asap!

Here's some eye-candy. Just pretend that the bassdrum is not there....!

          ;D

No but srsly, it looks really nice and clean. One of those legless hi-hat stands would be awesome aswell. THERE'S SO MANY THINGS I WANT TO HAVE!!!

...and on this (slightly blurry) picture, you don't even have to pretend something is not there...

Ugg... Racks... I find them so limiting in where I can place things. I swear that is the one thing I do not like about my TD-30KV. The rack may be built well and is strong and sturdy, but its such a PITA when I want to set things up, move things, try to place something in a location I want it to be, run cabling, etc... Stands are so much easier.

I'm not sure if a stealth rack would be any better, as it is still a rack, but maybe it opens up more possibilities.
I think my work is done here.

You just don't have the correct rack, Tommy!

Haha, nice! Well the kit could end up looking a bit weird without a kick drum :P If it bothers me too much I'll probably find some shallow kick drum or something to place there just for the looks

Exactly. Especially since there are soooo many clamp options that make virtually any placement possible with so much more versatility than stands.

Yeah I'll probably end up doing something like that, like what we discussed in my A2E-thread
