Need help with TD9 Module.

Hello all I have been absent from the forum for some time. Does anyone have any suggestions for removing the broken end of a stereo jack from inside the auxiliary jack. The very tip is stuck all the way inside the jack. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

You probably have to disassemble the entire module to get to that jack. Its not too difficult to do. Just take your time and don't pull on anything too hard.

Tommy Thanks. I did open it up and the jack is plastic and does not have a hole in the back to push the broken end out. Do you how the jack is connected? Do you think it just pulls out?

When this happened to a friend of mine, I was able to resolve this with a drop of super-glue.

We took the remaining piece of headphone-jack and put a drop of glue on it. We inserted the broken piece of headphone back into the headphone jack on the drum module. We waited 30 seconds for the glue to dry and then just firmly pulled out the whole thing...and the broken piece was removed.

The key was to be very careful with the amount of glue.

It certainly will be better to use the matching broken piece of the headphone jack...but I believe you would be successful using a wooden dowel as well.

I tried several times to get a bond strong enough to pull out the broken end of the jack that is stuck in the aux jack on my TD-9 module without success. I will try again today. In the event that I cannot fix it, I am considering my next step and would appreciate any suggestions from the forum. My choices are as follows:
1. Live without the number 4 tom and extra cymbal (I used a splitter in the aux jack.)
2. Send it to Roland or try and find a local place who can install a new female jack.
3. Buy a another TD-9 module. Lowest price I saw on ebay for used was $399. New still cost about $1000
4. Buy a TD-15 looking for opinions of TD-9 versus TD-15

You might not need to install a new jack. Often they are pretty accessible from inside the module. Dunno about the td9 though. Worth H taking the housing off before considering a new one.

Common wisdom (I.e. Hairmetal) says that the td15 is not as good as the td9

Hmmm, If I were in this situation I would be thinking SMALL. I would try finding a jeweler or clock maker with small tools that could extract the broken piece. Somebody has a tool (small needle nose pliers) that would do the job. What about hemostats that open in reverse? Get creative in a really small way!!

Yep, it's gotta come out... It got in there.

Maybe a small piece of plastic and some gorilla glue, or epoxy... Whates it in (making sure none gets on the sides) and let it set for a few hours, then one sharp tug.

That, or try getting something small in next to it and wiggle..

I'd still look at taking it apart thought. if you don't want to id beta any electronics repair shop would do it

Problem solved. Protech in Silver Springs took me as a walk in and replaced the jack. $59 and a drive around the beltway but I think this is the best outcome. Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Jim...I am glad that you were able to get this fixed.

I've had a few close-calls over the years with almost-broken headphone plugs.

I highly recommend to everyone to use a right-angle headphone adapter. I just bought a few from BestBuy for $1.99ea (SKU 8633767).

The right-angle adapter puts less stress on the headphone jack of the module. They also are less likely to break than a headphone plug.

My daughter recently knocked one of my synths off of a keyboard stand. The right-angle adapter bent but did not snap off. I am certain that if the headphone jack was plugged directly into the keyboard that the plug would have snapped off.

Module Thanks for the reply. I have been in touch with Jason from drum splitter and he is building a splitter for me with upgraded jacks. He may start offering these as a premium model splitter. I will look into the right angle adaptor but I worry a little about the quality of jacks from radio shack.

Some on-line parts houses offer high-quality (and expensive $10 ea) 1/4" jacks.
