  • TD-20

Hello. I have been searching for an electric kit for some time. I thought I would go with a TD-20 now that I have more room. One of my considerations was to find a bargain on a set, use it like it is for a while and down the road look in to getting a 2box to go with a more realistic sound (or so I read on line). I have an option to purchase a sort of Frankenstein kit. It consists of the TDW-20 expanded module. The screen looks bright and clear.

    Also included:
    Stand/rack – TD-12
Drum skins are all black with the exception of the kick drum, it is white
    1 PD125
    4 PD105
    1 KD120
    1 CY-12
    3 CY-8
    1 VH-12 Hi-Hat
1 CY-5 ( have to find this it is not in the pictures)
    DW-5002AD3 Accelerator Double Pedal
    DW-9000 Remote Hi-Hat
Roc N Soc Nitro Rider Throne
    Shure SRH840 Studio Headphones
Midi to USB Adapter (playing video games or connect to computer)

I'm also attaching a photo of the set.

I'd like any thoughts about this and can you give me some idea as to what a good price would be. I have to drive a few hours to get it so I'd like to feel good about the deal.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Ron

    Ron,

as you wrote the setup is obviously pieced together. I will just start by mentioning all the good points, that caught my eye:

    DW 5000 double-pedals/9000 hihat - top-of-the-line stuff, there.
Roc-n-soc throne with backrest - that's the way it should be
    VH-12
    Monitoring included
All the right pad sizes - the white kick really gives it away though. Not a functional concern, but visually this could be done better!

The not-so-good stuff, in my opinion:

The fact that there is a CY-12 ride cymbal instead of the CY-15 - which should be worthy of such a kit - should mean you can deduct another $100 -150 off the asked price.
The rack looks a bit tight, seller should have opted for the bigger MDS-20 rack. This is a missed chance on part of the seller! Probably you'll want to invest in a longer front-tube...
Ommission of any CY-14 crashes, which were standard with professional Roland kits! Maybe this an oportunity too, as this really calls for Yamaha PCY-135's.
But most of all: Those awful CY-8 crashes! You'll want to search around the forum and inform yourself about these, to see what I mean. If I'm going with a piece-meal kit, and have the opportunity to pick first-class components, *this* was a huge letdown by the seller. "Mission failed"here, in my opinion!

    My summary:

You'll note from my above blurb, that this is a good offer, but not one you can just 'buy, then forget about' - you'll have to make a few adjustments and take some further actions to really let this kit shine (bigger ride cymbal, longer front-tube, swapping the crashes for either CY-14 or PCY-135 models.)

...and then - if you dislike mismatched gear/are a bit 'gear-OCD' - you'll want that kick being BLACK!

Just $0.2 worth of my opinion!

Well, I made the trek of 130 miles each way and I wasn't disappointed. The seller was extremely generous and gave me everything and more to go with this hybrid set he built. I believe he used to frequent this site. I now have it home in my studio and gave it a test run last night. It was well worth the long research & time frame to find the perfect set for me! thanks to Danoh, Tommy D and Kenster for your generous help and time.

                    How 'bout it, Ron?

Greetings friends. I am for sure late about posting photos. Interestingly enough, I was visiting the site to thank everyone for a post I found last night. I was working on a song in my studio and when I connected the set to the inputs of my recorder, I got a loud hum. By resurrecting an old thread I found, I plugged into a different socket and it reduced the hum 90%. I was so grateful to find the answer here.

Here are some photos. I'm having a blast.

I was going to upload a test video I did the day I got the set. The previous post didn't seem to let me do more than one thing at a time. My wife wanted to record me playing so she took this video as I was messing around with the melodious set.
