pad construction

Hi E Drum Friends,
Around here it's common knowledge that Roland and Hart pads both have a piezo elements mounted in the center with foam transmitting the vibration of the head to the piezo, through a metal plate on the Hart pad and directly to the piezo via the cone on the Roland pad. What type construction/configuration are other brand pads like ddrum and Pintech etc?
Are all of the piezos the same on Roland,Hart,Pintech etc? The same electronic wise and sensitivity? Is Radio Shack just as good?
Where and how does ddrum place their elements?

I have built a few mesh pads w/ Radio Shack and other discount piezeo's to use in conjunction w/ my Vcustom. They work just as good as the Roland mesh pads. Very similar sensitivity and dynamics. I don't know about other brand pads.

If you're going to build your own, make sure you get the right type of piezo (without a feedback circuit). You might do some research here too:

I've build a meshhead-pad with the piezo-transducer as described on Beastnik's page(see for link on MPCman's site). Works excellent!
Now I want to try to make a KD-type-pad. Or are they designed differently?

Where & how does ddrum place their electronics? Do they use piezos just like the other company's do?

The ddrum4 Cast Precision Pads are just like the ones at:

Only difference is that the foam underneath
is only a ring at the edge.
(besides the fact that the housing is aluminum with a real rim + the flashy logo)
