  • Mask-time, Scan-time??

What is the purpose of these settings? Should they be set very high or very low?
I already have my crosstalk off and my sensitivity and threshold tweaked but I don't understand what the mask and scan time does.

    ADD,

The manual clears out what mask time and scan time do. From the explanation in the manual I learned that you should not set the rates too high.

However, I tweaked with these settings a few times when I had the Vdrums and I must tell you: I did not hear any differences in triggering. Pete Hart advices only to adjust the treshold, crosstalk and sensitivity settings on his modules settings page.
If you don't have problems with triggering right now: don't touch them.

OK, I have a problem with my hat pad... bear with me for a moment while I describe it.

You guys know the doorstops that are basically a tightly coiled spring with a rubber knob on the end? The kind you pull back and let go and it goes "TOIoioioioioing"

This is the effect I'm noticing sometimes on my had pad... I hit it and the energy is transered into the arm and then causes the pad to "toing" and trigger when I'm not hitting it... I've messed with sensitivity and threshold to no avail... is this a job for "mask" or should I change the way it's mounted to the arm or what?!

I think I am going to have to refer this problem to my cousin Toingo.

Not sure what you mean by "it causes the pad to trigger when not hitting it". Do you mean the initial hit to the hat sets it off and then it does it without hitting the pad for some period of time (like an echo). That would make the problem really weird. Otherwise, would check one of the screens, like volume, which shows and highlights each pad as you strike it. Verify it is the HH that is actually causing the trigger. Sometimes there is an after effect which causes another pad to actually be triggering immediately after the HH is being hit. The vibrations from the hat may be traveling through the stand and causing something else to trigger. Concentrating on the HH settings won't fix the problem cause it may really be Crash #1. I assume you checked Effects and Ambience to make sure they were'nt cranked up to 127 by mistake.

Does it do this on just one kit (I know, you love that word)? Or is this problem on all?

What happens is I hit it once and it triggers like, 2 more times (only sometimes). I know it's the bounce (toing effect) cause it still happens when I'm only hitting the hat pad.

I'm getting extra hi-hat triggers from the vibration in the hat pad itself (that's a more clear way to say it) Essentially, crosstalk vibrations from the first strike on the hat pad are causing false triggers in the hat pad... So, is "mask" my fix?

Humor me. Check the display to make sure only the hat shows being triggered and that no other pads flicker on the display.

Now don't get upset with me, but I get a bizillion problems thrown at me every workday and 99% are solved by asking this...
If it worked ok yesterday and stopped working today, what changed from yesterday to today? 99% of the time, something changed. 1% of the time or less, the product is going bad. Don't start with the complicated stuff, start with the obvious. I would move the rack a bit. Loosen and tighten the clamps. Try a different trigger bank. Many people don't realize you can save and restore just trigger bank settings. Reinitialize one of the trigger banks you are not using with the default settings or restore your last saved memory card trigger bank settings (assume you have a card and you occassionally do a bulk save).

I'm at work so I can only touch on general stuff.

Forgive me if 'm missing the point here, but if the re-trigger is being caused by the movement / vibration (toing) of the pad - can it (or it's clamping / arm) be adjusted so that there is less movement & it is more rigid.

I guess that you've already tried this and hence you're looking for a more in depth solution?

              Just a thought.
