  • TD-10 dead display lines

I have several horizontal lines on my TD10 display that are dead. (Won't darken like the rest of the LCD screen lines) Almost impossible to read some screens. Anyone know anything about replacing the LCD display or where to get it fixed? Thanks for your help!

A customer of ours had this problem once. We sent it for repairment to Roland and they fixed it.

Several people have had this problem. I have had my TD-10 going on 3 yrs. It has one horizontal line through it. It won't fix itself. You will have to send it in if it gets so bad you can't see what you are doing.

How much did they charge to fix it? Akai wants $400 for a new display for an S3000XL.

Well I don't remember every price for every repairment.
I would guess Roland Benelux would charge something like 150 or 200 Euro for this.
But I don't know for sure.

I think if you get charged more than say, $6000 you should be asking some questions!!

We received a used TD-10 from an eBay purchase (supposed to be in "lightly used" condition -- seller was a music store!) that had this problem. We ended up paying a little under $200 to get it fixed (a new display was ordered and installed).

                Cheers,

Thar's really not that bad for a display of that size. I wonder if there's a generic substitute for when these machines start getting older and Roland no longer stocks parts for it.

You've got to think (hope)that the LCD screen is a standard model that should be available somewhere. Now, anyone want to tear their TD10 apart and read me off the model numbers on their LCD screen? Kidding. I'm getting a quote from a repair shop. I'll let you all know what I find.

This is the kind of problem that can result from shaking a device like this. Someone said that since there weren't any drives or moving parts, there was nothing to worry about. I would again suggest to owners of this stuff to buy the rack mount adapter and move it out of harms way.

Hmmm, my lines reappeared the other day. In the beginning, they would come and go and then they stayed off. The other day they were back. Interesting.

FWIW: My unit has only left my basement less than a half doz times in 3 yrs. The rack is on a concrete floor with a carpet base - very secure. It is out of the way and has never been struck, banged, etc that I can remember. I have tapped the display and pressed on it - that doesn't change anything. The line, which recently disappeared, has never flickered. It is either there or the display works.

For one display line, my plan is to do nothing at this point. It's taken me a lot of years to learn to leave well enough alone. The V-pro at our Church also has a line running through it. It's ~4yrs old and has had a lot of wear and tear. Several other posts over the past 2 yrs have mentioned this problem. I just assumed it happens to a good number of units over time. When several appear and I can't make adjustments, I'll whine about it some and then get it fixed. If it's a loose wire, it will stay that way for now.

It would be nice to know if sending it to other than Roland is a cheaper option.
