1 out of 5 strikes is WAY LOUD!?

I had been experiencing my kick sounding fine, but every now and then it will be very loud for just one strike. . Now it's like every 5 to 10 strikes I get a really LOUD one. Only on the kick though. Do I have a trigger going out? Should I reset defaults?
I am bewildered. It's a 1 year old V-Pro w TD-10. I play 3 to 4 times a week some times hard.

start with the stupid stuff, change the cable, inspect the piezo and trigger, connect a different type of trigger(pd-100/120) to that input.....etc.

......Physical head tension, tension of you pedal to the kd-120 frame, the way the beater is hitting the head.

Well, I adjusted the head (it was way loose). It almost solved it. It still happens 1 out of every 20 or so strikes.. I am going to try restoring defaults. I forgot how though. I am dumb. Please help.

Tightening the head is a good start. To avoid any possibility of it being related to direct hits on the foam cone (the 'hot spot' issue), adjust the pedal so the beater hits about 1" to the side of the center of the drumhead. Or about 1" above it if you want symmetry. The beater should *not* hit the head dead-center!
