Kick Drum Sensor Malfunctioning

My kick drum sensor is missing beats. I think I need a new sensor. Any other thoughts. Can you replace them or do you need to by a new drum???

Are you using a KD-7, KD-80/120 or other device. What module are you using....

Once upon a time I wore out 1 of my 2 KD7s & had to replace it, back in 95'. I was hitting it way too hard, thinking I had to. Lighten up dude. Use more ankle & less Quad. My Kd80 works great with 2 beaters on it & I play dubbelbase like a muthafuda.

Mesh kick triggers are way better than a hardasc KD7 type trigger, btw...

I am using a KD-80. I don't think I am kicking it to hard. Anyways I appreciate any continued input.

Hey:

I know you said that you use the kd80. All sensors go out every now and then. They are easy and cheap to come by. I ordered an extra sensor in case I needed it. So far, I haven't had to use it (going on 3 1/2 years).

The KD7s go out on a routine basis. I was told to think of it as replacing a bass drum head every year. The good thing with the KD7 repair is that they replace all of the guts, including the jacks. In essence, you have a brand new pad once repaired.

Mine does this sometimes. Actually it is doing it now. You need to reinitilize the module and it should work again. Just make sure to backup anything you might want to save before you do. Try this first before you do anything else and see if that solves the problem.

Check your Mask Time and Crosstalk settings. It's a delicate balancing act to get them just right because of the beater bounce back. And sometimes mine gets changed by accident when I'm working on another setting and I don't have a pad "locked".

Thanks everyone for your help. I put it back together and seems to be fixed again for now. Great ideas. Looks like I don't need to replace for now.

I don't know if this is relational in any way. I had a Pintech K3 (KD-7 copy) and had a simular problem. I lift my foot off the pedal here and there and found that it wasn't missing triggers, it was actually false triggering very softly when my foot would hit the pedal. Then, the milisecond later when the beater would hit the trigger, it wouldn't be enough time to rescan. And as always, we thank you for your support.

hey guys.. I have not yet done all the trouble shooting necessary to determine if it is the pedal or the brain. But if someone could give me an estimate on how much it is to repair the KD-7 plz. Mines acting up too.

Make sure you reinilitize before you do anything else. Even these need to be "rebooted" once in a while.

Hey Mikey and Prototype,

Mikey, glad that you solved the problem. Even though I want to share my experience and maybe it will solve prototypes problem or anyone else who has a problem of missing a hits/beat sometimes.
I had the same kick problem with my old td-7. The problem for me was that the female jack inside the module was loosening from the board. After I solder (is it the right word?) it, the problem was fixed.
This thing will also happen to PD-7 and PD-9 female jacks (no experience (yet) with other pads). I use them since 1995 and I already repaired 4 of them.

For those who are afraid of screwing the module or the pads open, don't be, it's not so difficult. Otherwise ask a friend to do it.
