Making Drums from .wav

I thought of something that would be an incredible adition to any kit. To keep it brief, I would like to make sounds I can play on my VPro using the pads.

There are a few ways I figured out how to do this.

1. record as a .wav file and convert it to MIDI using applicable software. Then up load it to the memory of the TD-10.

2. same as #1, but upload it to a keyboard and link the MIDI keyboard and the TD-10

3. link up my computer and the TD-10 via a MIDI I/O. (Using special software?)

The advantages of this would be total sweetness. You could sample your own drum sounds. Or my personal favorite, sample voices and play your own voice like drums.

I use my TD-10 primarily as a pad to midi interface (with some layering and a few exceptions). I also use a TD-6 a bit for the same, but most of the sounds I use are sampled. I use an Akai S-6000 and incredible professional samples from some of the high end collections available.

For fun I "sampled" my main acoustic kit. It was harder than I thought, and all the results are no where near what the pro samples sound like, it is pretty cool to play my own acoustics on my e-kit.

I haven't fiddled too much yet with triggering more non-traditional things, but it is intriguing. Orchestra blasts are not the cheesy jazz horn strikes you are used to hearing...they can take your head off at volume, but just about anything can be triggered.

I'd say about 65% or more of what is heard on my kit is triggered samples, at all times.

Have you actually tried this or is this hypothetical at this point? Does it work? This could be an exciting break through. Could this be as simple as it sounds? What hardware and software would be needed?

I'm sorry but it will not work.

When you convert .wav sound to .mid it will be converted in to a general midi note/sound number that is the closest to the .wav sound. That note number is stored in your TD-xx and in any keyboard that supports general midi.
If you play the .mid sound (or the notenumber), the TD-xx and the keyboard wil produce the sound that belongs to that notenumber with their own on board midi chip.
The only way to produce the original .wav sound is to put it in a sampler and connect your TD-xx to it with a midi cable.

You can't put sounds into the td-10. Use a ddrum4, Alesis DM Pro, Yamaha DTXTreme or sampler for that.
