Hoping one o you guys can spare me from having to peruse my TD8 owner's manual here.

I added a DW5000AH & a KD7 for my left foot setup today. I've spliced my Aux 1/2 Input using a Stereo Y cable, one end goes to Tom4 & the other to my KD7 .

My Question: What parameters do I change within my TD8 to allow my Tom4 to sound as well as, say a cowbell, for my KD7. They are both single trigger pads, 1 PD80 & 1 KD7.
Once I (we) remedy this, I'll eventually splice my Kick 1/2 Input. O, & Thanx Much for any help, Gang!

Alexander, youor question is a bit confusing..."to sound as well as, say a cowbell..? If you're just talking about HOW to assign a cowbell sound to the KD-7 or PD-80, it's the same process as assigning ANY sound to any other pad. From KIT press F1(INST) and then just kick that KD-7 or hit the PD-80 and you'll see the current sound assigned to it...the rest I assume you understand..
If you have a sensitivity problem go to SET UP then F1(TRIG) use the cursor so you see the "highlighting" or "backlighting" of the trigger input you hi, then go and experiment with the trigger settings/parameters.

You will need to use an effects send/return cable (one end tip/one end sleeve) as Chris pointed out, and tell the unit you are using a dual zone pad in that input (like a PD-9 [but whatever works best]). That should allow you to assign the head and rim sounds separately on the aux input, one to be your tom 4 and the other for your new KD-7.

Here's what I'm using, http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=42%2D2448 Altho' it accepts 1/4" & not 1/8" stereo cables. I'm using the standard Roland stereo cables to attach to KD7 & PD80, then this adapter into my Aux 1/2 of my TD8.

Sofar I'm getting the same (Tom4) sound out of both pads. Anyway to get 2 separate sounds here? Thanx Again!

You could opt to buy the parts. You could also do it with a 1/4" stereo male and 2 1/4" mono male plugs (don't forget some wire and solder). But if you don't own these parts already, you will most likely find buying a pre-made cord will be much cheaper. The link the Dr. provided was reasonably priced.

I had to smile because at times I have decided to make items like this, only to have spent more and end up with less quality than the pre-made product . Check the music stores first.

Alexander: We've already answered you above. The cable I showed you is what you need. If you need a longer length, they are available at the same site. That's all you will likely need to purchase if you get one that is long enough to reach from the unit to both inputs. Making your own is O.K., but a little bit of a fiddle, and may cost nearly as much, so if you're not comfortable soldering (and/or don't understand the one=tip one=sleeve specific wiring needed), just buy one for $7-$8.

Then for your requested application, plug the end with one jack into your TD-8 aux jack. The other end will have two colored jacks, plug one into your tom 4 and the other into your KD-7. Program the pad settings on your TD-8 so that this aux input thinks you have a PD-9 plugged in. You will now be able to set one sound for the head, and one sound for the rim.

When you hit tom 4 the tom will trigger one or the other of the head or rim sound(s) assigned to the aux input. Figure out which and change the sound. The KD-7 will trigger the other sound (head or rim), which can be separately changed to anything you want. You will now only get the same sound if you intentially assign the same sound to the head and rim, otherwise, each can be anything you assign.

With all due respect to animal, I think that the wiring and jacks he is suggesting will give you the same results you are getting now. What Chris and I have described here and above is fairly simple once you have the right cord, and should work just fine.

That's right. I stand corrected. I knew that's how they did it on the TD-8, just forgot the subtle difference. Anyway, the cable and technique is nevertheless, just as we described.

I know you have been talking about the TD-8 but what about the TD-10. I can't find this in the manual. Here is what I'm thinking.

Can you seperate the head and rim from the KD-7 and input 1(kick). Meaning can I use a effects send/return cable on input 1, then use the kd-7 and a pd-5 (single trigger). Assign the kd-7 the bass drum and then assign the rim part and the pd-5 something else?

Second, since my 2 pd-120's are being used as toms using inputs 5 and 6, can I use the dual triggers in the pd-120's and do the same thing. Use the effects send/return cable on the two pd-120's and then use 2 pd-5's and assign seperate sounds for the toms and then the rim.

I hope this sounds right. I made an effects send/return cable from radio shack parts for my foot switch so I'm familar with the procedure. I'm basically asking if I can use the rim features that are not presently being used.

So for us TD-10 owners we cannot use a send/return cable to split inputs on the two AUX inputs? or any inputs for that matter?
