  • Aphex "Impulse" Manual?

It's a trigger-to-midi interface that I just picked up (it's being shipped actually) but it has no manual. It's pretty ancient, been discontinued for quite a while and when I contacted Aphex they said sorry, can't help you out.

    Anybody?
    E-drums: TD-20, RT-5S triggers on snare/toms, KD-7s, VH12, CY-14Cs, CY-15R, Pintech splash.
A-drums: Zickos (amber) w/ all Zildjians.

Nice job on the purchase... I just lost an ebay bid war on an Akai MIDI to trigger interface...

Rick Allen uses a bunch of the Impulse boxes....I'm not sure he'd volunteer a manual though

I'm not sure where else to look.

    Maybe try www.studiorelics.com

    Good Luck,
    Erik

Yea, I was able to get the power supply from Condor Electric for $38...

It looks to be in decent shape and I figured it was worth the gamble. If it doesn't operate properly I'll stick with using my alternate plan: use my ddrum4's to trigger Battery...

            nope...

I called and sent e-mails to 8 or 9 studios but still haven't had any luck...also contacted a bunch of online sites that carry vintage manuals (including www.roguemusic.com).

Erik - Although I didn't try to contact Rick Allen, I actually did an unsucessful search to try to find an e-mail address for Jerry Johnson, his drum tech!

jeez, this is almost as hard as finding a ddrum3 manual

              Jimmy,
I have a Aphex Impulse manual for the one I am using. It is a model 810 version 1.3.2.( it has been upgraded). I can make you a copy of mine after I dig out of this blizzard , I am sure you are getting alittle snow up in Maryland to from the looks of the weather channel ( Im in Virginia). The manual is about 48 pages not counting the cover pages my wife might be able to get it copied at work if not I can go to Kinko's or something and get it copied. Email me and I can maybe get you a copy if you still need it if it is the manual you need .

                    Jimmy C,

I also just picked one of these up on ebay, with manual. Did you ever get a copy? If not, let me know. Have you had a chance to use it yet? Seems like a decent way to add a bunch of inputs for little moola..

By coincidence, I just connected mine for the first time to an Akai Z8 last night. Yea, it seems to trigger extremely fast for me as well! I was planning on comparing it to the ddrum tonight.

The manual doesn't say much on hi-hat functionality...still trying to figure out if it will accept my Hart e-pedal or not - I was a little too timid to try last night without a clear understanding of what to do...I think input 6 is the default hi-hat input but I am not sure if it makes any difference. The other thing that still has me scratching my head is the "pulse outs" Is there any practical use for this? Synchronized stage light show, maybe!

The pulse out would be used if you had an old module without midi like a Simmons SDSV, SDS1000 or SDS8, you plug the pulse outs to the trigger ins of the module.

That's what I wanted to hear! If there's an acceptable way to configure a hi-hat controller, I can dump my ddrum4(just using it to trigger NI Battery anyway), and use the profit for some more fun toys!

The old Yamaha DTS70 had 12 pulse outs, one for each pad input.

There's an unused DTS70 on ebay right now - a little more expensive than the Aphex goes for, but it looks like a real nice piece of equipment.

It's truly unfortunate that these companies chose to discontinue producing high quality trigger-to-midi interfaces in favor of "everything but the kitchen sink" drum modules.
