  • How do I assign Patch # 300 on td10 to midi # 50 on SPD20?

More specifically, I would like to assign a TD10 china patch to the SPD20. Now, the china patches on the td10 are assigned to #s greater than 127 (which is the SPD20 midi # limit) ...

What I need to do is figure out how to copy that china patch on the td10 from wherever it is above 127 to a bank less than 127 so that the SPD20 can refer to it. How can this be done?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jason

Hey Jason, I use SD on occassion. You can do what you want quite easily without SD too though. Just set your TD-10 to note chase in the global midi settings, then go to the percussion group you're using and when you hit the SPD pad, it will jump to whatever note # is being sent and show the sound it's using. Press Edit and select a china sound for that note and you're all set.

From SD, it would be in the percussion group.

Regarding the >Note #127, that's not possible with the MIDI spec. Something isn't right if you're getting a note that high. You mentioned the word 'bank', did you mean patch or instrument maybe? A true 'bank' is the same as a 'kit' in td-10 terms.

If you want, you can send me your sounddiver file and I'll check it out for you. I have a TD-10 with a TDW-1 and one without, so either way I can test it for you..

Unforunately, you can only 'model' the sounds that are assigned to the internal pads on the td-10. All the others will only give you pan, vol, pitch and decay settings.. generally those are fine for most things I've found though. Like high toms, cymbals, etc. Kinda sucks having to look in another place on the td-10 for those other instrument sounds for editing.. SoundDiver is really nice when it comes to that. Though even on a 1600x1200 display, I still have to scroll around to see everything the td-10 has!

Hmm.. "modeling" as in... say I assigned a china to a pad connected to the td10, v-edited and everything... then I can also assign this edited sound to an spd20 pad via the protocol you just mentioned?

Mmm. not exactly.. I forget what settings are available for cymbals, but I think it's just pitch and decay anyways, on the internal pad sounds of the td-10. So you're not losing out on anything. I just read in another post from Albatore I think it was, who said he uses all the kick, snare and tom sounds from the internal pads (plugged into the back of the td-10) and then cymbals triggered via midi input, so he doesn't lose out on the COSM modeling (that's what I meant by modeling) features that the drums (as opposed to cymbals) have.

Your best bet is not even connecting the audio outs of your SPD to a mixer or the aux in on the td-10 or anything. Just run midi out and get all the sounds from the td-10. By using note chase you can see what notes you're sending out.

On my DrumKat, I generally like to set up a percussion group and the notes coming out of the DrumKat to be a group of 10 (it has 10 pads on it). Like note #70 to 79. Then they're all next to each other for easy editing and all. Then as the system grows, I know that the 70's range is off limits, but anything else not in use by the internal td-10 pads is fair game for assigning/changing sounds..

Ahh I gotcha, alright, thanks a lot. I'm going to go down momentarily to review how I have everything connected and adjust accordingly....

              I appreciate it, thanks again.
