  • Bottom Line on TD-8 vs. TD-6

I reviewed a bunch of the posts (funny you can't use TD-8 or TD-6 as a search term - too short) and wanted to get the bottom line if possible on some issues. I am thinking the extra 300-400 for the TD-8 might be worth it in the longer run....

    1) Quality of sounds - seems like TD-6 is a little better? Are the TD-8 sounds that different / worse? I am not a fanatic about it but would hate to get 200+ crappy snares!!

    2) Hi-Hat - I never liked the TD-5 so used acoustic...I am going to use this with either the roland pedal or a Hart pedal...have they improved the reality of these - one brain better than the other?

    3) Anyone out there with Gart (I am going with Studio Standard) and either brain that has comments?

Sorry for rehashing some old ground but there did not seem to be a definitive post out there...maybe there isn't one
    Thx. JS

To search for "TD6", enter "TD6*" (star being a wildcard).

This thread is fairly definitive on the TD-6/TD-8 differences:
    td6 v td8 talk please!!

I upgraded from a TD-6 to a TD-8, mainly for the volume sliders and easier editing. The actual original sounds are identical, but you get a bit more control with the TD-8 in terms of V-editing (shell depth, head type, muffling etc.).

For the Hi-Hat, I would say the FD-6 pedal operates identically on both modules, which is quite well.

The price difference should be more like $200-300 extra for the TD-8, depending where you shop, rather than $300-400.

    Who's Gart?

Hey, robotron (is that from the game?):

Just to put your mind at ease, let me assure you, as an owner of both the TD-8 and the TD-6, that there is no difference between the sounds quality-wise or quantity-wise. The two modules are identical in these respects. Having said that, I agree with your choice to get the TD-8........

          OT: Robotron 2084 rules!!

Hey Mick - thx. Yup from the game - I lucked into a friend who had a friend who worked at Williams along time ago and actually had an actual standup arcade game collecting dust! Some heavy lifting and $100 of repairs later and I have one! It coredumps every so often but I have pictures of the high score board all over 1,000,000...next step is to get em all over 2,000,000...

the old style joysticks are so much more responsive then the current PC stuff....have u checked out mame32 for arcade games via pc?
          Thx. JS

My son steered me toward a website (the address escapes me) that has a lot of the classic arcade titles. He hooked me up with Space Invaders, Missile Command, Tempest, Centipede, Joust, Defender, and Asteroids.

Which is cool and all, but the game I was really obsessed with back in the day (and one that I just can't seem to find a download for) was Burgertime! Anybody out there got the hookup?

I have the Hart Studio Standard w / TD-8. Very pleased with it, but it's my first e-kit. It's great to practice on, and the band likes it because we can control the volume levels now - and the girlfriend's ecstatic. I'm just starting to get used to it - way different from acoustics.

If I didn't have the ability to edit the drums, I think I'd like it a lot less. I've been doing quite a bit of tweaking to get the sounds I like, and lots more tweaking to do.

                  Get the TD-8.
