I've been very happy with the Emu E4XT I picked up used last year. I bought Sonic Reality Interactive Drums and Drum Doctor II CDs for it and the sound quality is second to none. The Machine came with 9 CD roms which has most of the sounds from the entire Proteus line as well as Procussion and a bunch of high quality sounds of every kind. I also bought a high speed scsi cdrom drive and the unit came with a 2 gig internal hard drive and the Esynth Rom board installed with 16 meg of sounds. The hard drive was loaded with sounds as well. I paid $950 for it on Ebay and it's been a great investment, I won't go back to modules, ever. Just do a search for sampler on Ebay, you won't believe what there is there.

This being my first post, I must say that I own a roland S-760 that I've had for about 7 or 8 years now...cost me $2200.00 when I bought it(full options) kinda outdated now but you can find them for $350 on Ebay now, what a heartbreaker...but the still sound great and are crossplatformable(if thats a word) with other sample CD's. Just my $0.02's.

A sampler really is a long term investment, take the S760 for example. You can still get very high quality professional sounds for it and it's older than the TD10, I think. It's just a computer that does one or two very specific things, records and plays back sound and maybe sequences. I don't think anything sounds as good except a software synth, and longevity, forget about it. There are new CD rom titles comming out literally every day for all formats. The E4 converts Akai disks very well without doing a single thing, just load and play from scsi with proper maping already there. I gave up using the DTX for interfacing, the velocity was strange and it wasn't as fast as the manual said it is. I went back to the Drumkat, it still works the best for this function.
