Well I guess I've screwed up (maybe) on my installation of the tdw-1. I didn't have a memory card or a midi device for a dump and went ahead and installed the upgrade without saving any data. Now, from what I understand, the only way to get to run the original 50 kits is to copy/overwrite the expanded kits. This is too much trouble. Can you save the old kits to a memory card and access them this way after the upgrade is completed? This sucks too. All 100 kits should be accessable from the value dial!!!

How about just helping the fellow and expressing your frustration about the lack of a FAQ for newbies elsewhere.....
Bull, no, you didn't do anything wrong and all your kits are avaialble. Press TOOLS, then F1(Copy) and spin your wheel conterclockwise. Watch the TOP line of the display. You will travel through ALL kits including the original TD-10's 50 kits at the very end of the spin. If you find a kit you want to try, DON'T press F4(Copy) until you use the cursor down key and then wheel to a current kit you don't mind temporarily overwriting. Nothing is EVER lost unless you use the above method to overwrite a favoite kit that you have spent time CUSTOMIZING. The reason there are 150 kits to go through when you spin counterclockwise is simple. The first 50 are the 50 "current" kits in volatile memory, the next 50 are the ROM-based "original" TDW-1 50 kits from your card purchase and the last 50 are the ROM-based "original" TD-10 kits. Yes, they are all there...except for those five poor little KitCopy kits (the last 5 from the original TD-10) that apparently get overwritten when you install the TDW-1.Comment

NO. You cannot access kits directly from the card. You must overwrite one of the 50 user kits ... HOWEVER ... instead of "Tools, Copy, Select kits from/to, Copy", you can do this: Tools, Copy, Select kits from/to, EXCHANGE. By selecting Exchange, you swap the kits from card to brain. The advantage is that any customized kits don't get overwritten. When done, you can swap them back. If you are going to do this with a lot of kits, I'd recommend a master list so you know what you started with on the TD and the card.
Ok, the light went on and Plan B came to me.
Buy two cards. Put all your TDW-1 stuff on one card and TD-10 on another. Bulk copy the entire card to the TD in one shot.
Plan C: Buy three cards. Store TD-10 on one, TDW-1 on another and your 50 most used on the third.
Sheesh! Why do you have to have 100 kits instantly accessible anyway. You're a kit hog! You need help for this compulsive behavior.Comment

If you keep track of where you bounce things, you don't need a second memory card unless and until you have 50 custom kits that you cannot easily re-create or in other words, that you couldn't live with overwriting. At that point, buy a second card, $70 or so on e-bay. Viola, room for 50 more custom kits.
Personally, I don't even need 50 custom kits, and almost never use anything but what I've presently got loaded up, but its cool that I could. I can still make any changes that I want at any time, and when I make a significant change, I re-save everything in my user area to a memory card just for safety.

Thanks guys for the suggestions/replies!! Sorry to cover old ground. I was hoping somebody would explain this to me in simple language that us computer/sound engineer illiterates could understand. I really would love to advance on the workings of this solid silver beat machine quickly, but I guess (damn it!) that it's just gonna take awhile. I guess my main problem is that every time I sit down to learn how it works, I wind up doing way to much playing (is that possible?) and too little learning! P.S. as far as me being a kit hog, I just can't help myself. I would like to turn the dial and access everything instead of pushing all those damn buttons. Maybe customize a kit for every song played in a 5 hr gig! I guess you can't have everything for $3865. Yea, I know!! wah, wah, wah!! Thanks again fellas!Comment
