  • TD6 vs TD8

I am looking to purchase my first e drum set. I am on the fence whether to lay out the extra cash for the TD8 over the TD6. Basically, I am purchasing for fun and an occaisional jam with friends. I am looking to pruchase the Hart Studio Standard. WIll either module allow me to add an additional trigger or two down the road?

Any insight and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

You should search for this topic as there's loads on it. You will be able to add extra triggers on both modules, and if you run out there's the TMC-6 which will create more inputs.

If its just for fun the td-6 should be enough cos loads of guys use them on here for more than just fun ie regular gigging.

Just weigh up how much you want extra editing, and a few more easily accessable controls, and also how you want the drums to feel, with the pads coming with the td-8 a more realistic mesh head. It is quite a lot of extra money though. But if you, like i'm beginning to, get the buying gear bug, then you're f*cked financially anyway cos there's always a little thing hear and there that you can add or buy!

Since you are going with the Hart kit (great choice), my advice would be the TD6 module - which would save you a few coins which you can put into more pads.

      Yeah! More stuff to hit!

If it's just for fun and the odd jam with your friends, the TD-6 is totally fine. Save your money. The TD-6 seems like a pretty simple and robust unit so you might even consider going used... I don't think the cost premium of a new unit is justified by the warranty. You can add a trigger or two down the road... A hart STudio standard will not come even close to maxing out the TD-6, which has more or less the same number of inputs as a TD-8, just configured a bit differently. The sounds w.r.t. the TD-8 are IDENTICAL (minus the extra editing capability of the TD-8).

A TD-8 has things that a more 'professional' user would want:
        - front panel faders (the TD6 lets you edit relative levels but it is more cumbersome... no big deal for casual use, you just set it and forget it).
-ability to route the click to your headphones but not the outputs
        - seperate volume control for headphone out and main outs
-more outputs so a soundman can mix your kit on a gig, or so that you can record multiple drum channels for later mix down
-"V-editing" - you can change things like shell depth, skin material, etc with a TD-8, but the controls of the TD-6 are just the basic pan and pitch.... personally, I think there are a ton of good snares, kicks, etc in the TD-6 right out of the box, and a casual user is not really going to care about tweaking them that much. I just picked my favourite kick, a nice snare, nice toms, etc, put all that together into a single user kit with no other editing whatsoever, and I use that kit about 90% of the time.

        Good luck
        Darren

A few other cool features the TD-8 has that the TD-6 doesn't are -
Footswitch jack - to change kits with a footswitch (or two)
Chain function - lets you arrange kits in chains to step through them in any order you want. For example - with a footswitch or one button push you could go from kit #1 to #35 to #12 etc.
          Mix In volume knob
Ability to change kits or patterns with pads plugged into the 11/12 inputs.

          Good luck!

if you are goin to use the drumkit for practice, fun or home ,just buy TD6.. if you want more than just practice (gigs, recordings, etc) go and get the Td8..

Some of us know that's not quite entirely correct!
