I'm looking for something fat, deep and heavy. Identical to the bass drum on "And Justice For All". I'm pretty sure they were maple 24"'s. The td-8 maple bassdrums sound like crap honestly. I've been playing with the bass drums for hours changing tunings, muffling etc. They all have the same problem, there's a buzz after. It's either that or the sound is synthetic and has a musical tone. It should be a very low thud, which I can't seem to reproduce. I've even tried tom sounds tuned down, but they have a very sharp beater sound.

Good bass drum on td-8?

Yeah I found that out.. the problem is the birch tom+bass sounds like somebody put a snare strainer on them! WTF is that buzzing sound? not to mention they have almost no bass and sound like a jazz bass drum.. HMMMMmm. Right now I have Room 1, with a coated head (to keep down the buzz), deep, tuning -75.. Sounds pretty close to the Justice for All bassdrum. Better, but not perfect.
Crappy samples, or just my td-8? I hooked up 4 toms today, and tried to have the top two maple1 and maple2, default, and the bottom two maple3 and maple4, both tuned down so they they are like low tuned 16" and 18" floor toms.. Well maple4 just buzzes at about -60 tuning. I'm actually using maple3 tuned -60 for tom 3, and maple3 tuned -100 (which actually makes a tom sound!) for tom 4. What's wrong with this picture? Infact I could barely tune maple4 down at all without it sounding pretty bad.

Guys,
give a little here. The odds on you faithfully re-creating the right kick sound with just a module are pretty amazingly high. Remember, an album kick may be EQ'd, gated, compressed, etc
Whatever happened to finding your own sound..?

Marc., is it so difficult for you to understand that there are more options than just Vdrums ?RobertComment

Why don't you answer my question to you?

Everyone, including you, knows where I'm coming from so why would you even ask such a silly question? Have you been drinking again?
tsk, tsk,

I prefer the "meat" kick, as well, set to DEEP. Not sure if I like coated or pinstripe heads better.
I liked it in my headphones, but I really liked it coming out of the amp. Nice and punchy. After listening to other kicks, I think it may be the closest thing to what you want.Comment

I was tired when I posted that. What I meant (and should have written) was that with just a little eq tweaking and adjustment, Meat has a wide array of "colors". It's the one I use most because it is the best sound to begin with for MY needs. The Pantera kick I like most was on "Vulgar Display..." and "... Trendkill". You know the one, all you hear is "slap" but theres this 'meat'y feel to it and a deep pulse along with it...
I'm no good at discribing sounds... go get the album.
