A used TD-6 (old version in blue) or TD-6V (newer version in black) goes for around this price (in USD) on ebay. I think this is as good as you can get from Roland in this price range. Not sure other brands like Yamaha though.
    My compact kit.

I am a fan of the TD-6V in this range as well. The TD-3 would also fit in this price range.

TD-6V Strengths: WAY more sounds and is somewhat more "tweakable" than the TD-3.
TD-3 Strengths: New sound set than the TD-6V and the Drumming coach.
TD-12; TD-6V; FD-8; Hart Pro Toms, Snare, Bass; ECII hihat, crashes, splash & ride; Smartrigger crashes & china; Hart Hammer Pad; Pintech Dingbat; Iron Cobra double-bass.
