  • Roland RAD10U mounting shelf?

Anyone have the Roland rack mount? It's $59-69 online.. Just wondering if it's worth it.. Appears to be an angled shelf with some holes in it?

    Here it is

I'd like to see a larger picture of it/get some opinions..

    Thanks!

I don't have one, so take this with a grain of salt..

But it seems like it would be most useful if you were NEVER pulling your TD-10 out, ie, you're on tour and you want to have the TD-10 permanantly hooked up. For the casual player like me, taking my TD-10 home occasionally to tweak sounds is common, and having to pull the TD-10 out of a rackmount system seems like it would be a pain.

Also, I imagine you'd have to allow another two or three rackspaces on top for the cables to come out of the TD-10. Or you could get all L-shaped jacks for the TD-10, but I'm not sure they'd all fit quite right.

Seems like it'd be best with a top mounted rack - such as this: http://www.zzounds.com/love.music?p=...=1461690412136

That rack looks a little large for me to wanna haul around

I think in a smaller rack, it wouldn't be so bad.. But I'm debating between a mounting plate type thing or actually dismantling a TD-10 and remounting it into a 2U rack space panel or something.. Maybe it would need 3.. It's such an awkward design for serious mounting.. I ordered 8 rack mounted DI boxes. It's actually a pair of units, each a half rack space, with 4 in each one.. So in a single rack space, I have 8 DI's.. if I can mount the TD-10 with that, I can keep them attached to each other all the time, would be much simpler for setups.. I need some way to get it up in the air though so it's reachable from the throne.. hmm.. Maybe there's a rack somewhere that can mount on top of a pole.. Say a 4-5 space rack, shallow depth?

Cool, thanks for the link on that. I think it would be cool as a smaller D4 style rack unit (or dm5, dm pro, dtxpress * 2, etc single rack space.. But I guess 3 spaces isn't too bad.. That price seems rediculous though.. $60 for a piece of metal with some holes.. hmm...

          mounting shelf

          Hi,

I bought that mounting thingy about a year ago on a whim, and I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. It took up 5 rack spaces and made getting at the back of my TD-8 impossible. It may work for some, but it didn't work for me. IMHO, some of those top opening cases made for mixers, turntables, and portable digital recording systems will do a much better job.

BTW, does roland sell the TD10/8 mounting plate seperately from the kit?
          Cheers,

          JHH

            Harlock,

don't worry man, I'm talking about the legit Roland rack mount: the RAD-10U. It only takes up 2U, but with the module mounted; the whole thing like spans 5U. Give or take a U. I think that if you're going to make one of those things, you might as well orient the module vertically.

BTW, unless you've got a patent filed on your design, pretty much anyone can take it and replicate it for their own purposes. Shucks, even if you did have a patent filed, they could still use the design as long as they didn't market it or sell it.
            Cheers,

            JHH
