  • Hi hat adjustment - td-6kw

    Hi guys

I'm hoping for some advice. I recently bought a 1 year old td-6kw. My question relates to the hi hat function.

At the moment, I only seem to have a half closed or fully open sound. When I fully depress the pedal, the hats are still quite washy. I expected that when they were fully closed, that they should have a nice snick snick sound.

Is there something I can adjust or is this normal?

    Thanks

    HH on TD-6

What HH Pedal are you using? FD-8? FD-7? I use an eDrum Clutch for my HH to get a range between open and closed. Gives me the ability to dial in the sound. Nice for when I play double bass. I went the wuss route and bought them from a guy's eBay store but he no longer sells them.

If you do a search for eClutch or something like that, you can find a lot of DIY projects for making one.

Hi. It's the FD-8. The main problem is not being able to get a nice clean sound for some more intricate hat work. It seems there are only two sounds, washy and open. Any advice?

Does it only do it on some kits??

Here's a thought: Even if your HH pedal is functioning properly, if the decay of the "closed" hi hat sound has (for some insane reason) been set extremely high, that might cause the sample to play been very long.

Also, make sure you're not stepping on the HH pedal at all during start up, as that can throw off the calibration of the sensor, as seen by the module.

Do you have access to another HH controller. If you plug in a pedal that you know functions correctly(any HH pedal, really), and you still have the problem, you can safely say that your current FD-8 is not malfunctioning. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah. Make sure the cables are firmly seated. Try another cable that you know works properly. Do everything that you can possibly imagine to determine the root of the problem. i.e. - Bad pedal, bad cable, connection issue, module broken...

It is not normal...I have a TD-6V module and I can get fully closed sounds using a FD-8. Since you bought it used, as I did, perhaps on some of the kits the prior owner wanted half open to open sounds and programmed the module that way. Perhaps a factory reset is in order?

The simplest solutions: Usually the best.

It seems the previous owner had no need for tight 'chick' hit hats.

Glad you have discovered and rectified the problem.
