    Hey V-Drummers,

anyone have any insight on this Behringer 15 watt KT-108 keyboard/vocals/drum-machine amp it has one 20watt 8" dual cone speaker. Found it for $50.99 at digilake.com. Would it be sufficient to jam in the garage or is it to weak? Would using two of them 1 for each channel (left and right) make a difference in sound quality and loudness, Would like to be able to here the drums along with bass and guitar. I don't want to spend a whole lot ($150 or less ) if possible to get good sound and be loud enough. Any other suggestions on a decent low cost amp/monitor?

    Thanks in advance.

I think the consensus is you need triple digit output wattage and you get what you're paying for.

Um Chris, usually we'd say UTFSE for a question such as this but since we went to all the pain and effort to avoid making new members go thru the search engine right-of-passage by making a sticky that sciomako so nicely provided.....

Avoiding the issue of Behringer itself, what you're asking will depend entirely on how amped the bass and guitar players are. If they adhere to stereotypes, they'll each have amps with triple digit outputs. Sure, they might only turn each amp up to, oh, 2, but still. In order to "compete" you'll need much much more than 2 measely 20w amps.

That being said, if your fellow bandmates plan on keeping things turned down below 11, you *might* get by with what you propose. I use two 15w Crate keyboard amps and while they're okay for certain things, man oh man, they have *no* low end whatsoever. Okay, you don't need to be rattling spines into dust with lots of low end but you do need the band to occasionally feel the drums, and you won't do that with any 20w system.

A budget of $150 in many ways constrains you to 1 speaker of some ilk. Even the massive amp sticky doesn't address "low cost" edrums amp possibilities cuz, quite frankly, low cost edrum amp solutions suck.

Look used. Three digit keyboard amp as sciomako and the amp sticky suggest. Getting something older with a 12" or even better, a 15" speaker, would fit the bill. Again, used.

Thanks for the info Sciomako and Grog I appreciate it I will try using the search engine in the future. I will browse the stickies from sciomako and try to find a solution and just save for a bit till I can afford the wattage...

        thanks again fellers...

On the amp sticky, you'll notice references to Peavey KB series amps. Head over to ebay and type in the following search term:

          peavey kb*

and see what you see. There are several Peavey KB series keyboard amps to include a couple of KB/A 60s. Now, those are at the low end of what might work but they'll get you in the ballpark early on at a rock bottom price. Also note there are some affordable KB-300s in there. The biggest problem is that shipping a Peavey kills you on price although I see a guy selling a KB4 that's "only" $75 for shipping. Still, use ebay to get an idea of what's out there, then check craigslist to see if anything pops up for sale locally. That also has the advantage of being able to check out the equipment. Pawn shops too and don't forget any music store that also sells used equipment.
