As a newbie with the td-12 on the snare i have picked the piccolo snare and added some buzz.I have also used the booth one (somethink like that) and chose the ones with positional sensing and interval control. Also prefer wood and loose settings.
For toms i use the oak ones with positional again and for cymbals the 16' ones. The hats are factory settings and i love them. The cowbells....no i don;t use them anymore...I also love the factory rim sounds (v-edit kit) on the toms cause they sound like hitting sticks together or the wood of an accoustic tom. They give a realistic feeling

I am still working on this so i would also be glad to see some other's recommendations.
    Ex E-kits:
''Lernean Hydra'' ( a bounche of roland pads with a td-6 module)
''Lucy'' (Diamond electronic drums with a td-12 module)
    current E-kit
    ''Cherry Gretschy Lady'' (Gretsch Catalina Ash 6 piece A to E kit-Roland td20 module-A to E cymbals)

    A-kit
    " Mrs.Catalina'' (Gretsch Catalina maple 6 piece kit-Paiste signature+Masterwork custom made cymbals)

I just downloaded the manual, can you please rather tell me the number of snare and tom you talk about ? will be more easy to use tonigh

BTW i saw that to select a tom or a snare sound we have to press on INST, strike the pad, then select the sound, and EXIT, but no button to save the change ? to which Kit those selected sound will go ?..

      Thank's

On page 88 for snare instrument 90 or 92
on page 89 for toms instrum 199-206
on page 89 for cymbs 315-316

but rememeber u can pick ANY instrument u want on ANY pad and edit it as you like. When u do some changes they are automatically saved. If u want to restore the initial settings u nedd either to copy the kit or factory restore.

        hope that helped

I know he asked specifically about the snare and some other sounds, but it might be best if you can just tell him the numbers/names of a good, realistic (acoustic-type) kit or two (sorry, I don't have the TD-12 [yet! ], so I can't help). That way he won't have to get into assigning pads and essentially creating his own kit on a strange module, right before a live performance.

licop i can help as much as i can but i really think u should check the manual.
i got this module for 3-4 days and the first thing i should do is read again and again the manual.I could suggest some kits that IMO are close to realistic or accoustic or whatever

                    those are

                    1-v stage
                    4-custom
                    17-big rock
                    27-groover
                    28-double bass
                    50-my kit

u can keep these kits for "accoustic" kits and tweak all others to "realistic"
not to dissapoint u but u will NEVER get the realistic sound just the realistic feeling
