CY-15R bell fix

I must be just lucky guys - the bell of my CY15 and CY12 both work fine with stick tip and shoulder. I would add that the impact area is quite small and can take a bit of fine adjustment in the module to get the sensitivity right.
What exactly does the "fix" do?
Is it just sensitivity or does is expand the impact area?
Does it interfere with the separation between the bell trigger and the bow / edge triggers?
Do you get more bell sound when playing bow / edge?Comment

Do anyone know if the problem is solved with the newest cymbals? I bought a demo that have the problem. I called the store and the owner told me he will test it and replace it for another one. I just wonder if the brand new one have less chance of having this problem.Comment

My CY-15R is only a couple months old. Before the fix I had to hit the bell really hard and it still wouldn't trigger reliably. I did all the adjustments on the module without any significant effect. I have absolutely no problem with cross-talk, I get the bell sound only when I play the bell. Likewise, no matter how hard I hit the bow or edge...no false triggering of the bell. Works perfectly.Comment

Roland does not consider the CY12 or 15 to be faulty...so the new cymbals are the same in manufacturing.
I think as the cymbal rubber ages and is struck repeatedly it becomes more flexible and triggers more easily...tried the fix on a friend's 5+ year old heavily used CY15 and it did not change anything...had to un-fix it
I used one circular shim on my 15 but needed two on my cy12. Both cymbals take the same size shim which Micheal Render provided the pdf for.chris :DComment

I did my CY-15r repair a month ago and 2 shims of transparency was the fix. Perfect light bell action ! Woot !Comment

Roland is WRONG. They BELL is faulty and the fix is easy.

When I watch Johnny Rabb play the bell on a CY-15 or 12, he always uses the shoulder of his stick and it works great. So if that is your playing style, there is nothing wrong with the design. Those of us who use the tip, however, see it as a flaw. I am not going to attack Roland for not immediately recalling all these cymbals and replacing them. But I am going to hope the next generation is improved. Much like they do with every generation of triggers.Comment

On mine even using the shoulder of the stick required a stupid amount of force. Now it works great with 2 shims .Comment

When I first got my TD-9KX (with the CY-12R/C), one of the things I was a little unsure about was the sensitivity of the ride bell. Mine required hitting harder than any other pad or surface... and it wouldn't always trigger when intended. And I'm a player who tends to use the shoulder of the stick to play the ride bell 90% of the time.
So I did the bell fix (using three layers of transparency)... and WOW... it works! It's a lot more sensitive... but now find myself conscious about the fact that it feels like it lacks 'dynamics'. There's no cross-talk or false triggering... it's just that it's dynamic range seems to have been reduced. I now feel like I have to re-calibrate my playing to suit.
I'm going to live with it for a bit and see how I feel after a few weeks.

I initially tried two... and there was no improvment. When I inserted the third one, it was a cymbal pad transformed. I might experiment with different types of material in the future if I feel I can't get on with how it responds.

I went to the place I bought it and he tried it on a TD-9. The cymbal worked perfectly. I'm confused because I don't understand why my TD-6V wouldn't trigger correctly.Comment
