I'm converting an acoustic set, but I am going to be using a gibraltar rack. I cant find any tom clamps that go on a rack. the ones I'm finding are for cymbal stands.

Maybe the hardware is different on acoustic toms,. I use L-rods and the clamps that came with my Gibraltar ( it's the about $300 curved front set with two cymbal booms and two curved 'wings") rack. There doe seem to be LOTS or hardware out there, makes things confusing.Michael

gibraltar l rods
I'm pretty sure there are two L-Rod diameters. I think its 10.5 mm and 12 mm but I did not take the time to look it up.Pearl SRX Custom Session set and Rogers jazz set with Zildjian and Sabian cymbals, DW Collector snare, Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster snare, Zendrum, SPD-S, TD-20, Gibraltar frame for Roland and Pintech pads and Roland cymbals, TrapKat

Solution:
Apparently Roland L-rods are just a hair over 11 mm. The common size of L-rods for acoustics are 10.5 mm (and sometimes 12.7 for DW's and whatnot). You can either get a round file and grind out the tom mount holes so that they fit, or you can get some new L-rods. These can be used in place of the Roland L-rods, provided that whatever clamp you use can accommodate a 1" plug, although I think Roland L-rods have 7/8" plugs.
You may have to get new rods and clamps altogether. I personally use this with one of these to mount my toms. I love how adjustable the toms are with these pieces.
Hope this helps.sigpic
