  • Mask time / tonality changes

strange one - My understanding of the mask function is that it adjusts the sensitivity of the head. so you can adjust the mask time to be less sensitve if your bass players rig keeps triggering your pads. Is this correct?

I have been tweaking my mask time on the kick head (mesh type - really should learn the model #'s :P ) to increase sensitivity. I have it all thew way at zero and that seems to help the head register all of my lightning fast blows

the strange thins is that im noticing a cahnge in the pitch of the drum as I adjust the mask time. The sound sounds best at about the 1/2way setting of the mask dialogue. Is there a fix for this?

    ( I have a unexpanded TD-10 btw )

thanks in advance for any sagely advice.

for instance, if your mask time is to low, you might hit the bass drum and leave the beater on it and a slight foot movement will trigger it again inadvertently. by raising the mask time value, your telling it not to trigger again unless there is more substantial pressure applied with the beater, between hits.
i think, the tonality change that you hear is the higher you set it,the less dynamic the hit is, if it's set to hi. like all settings on v-drums, i found that the lower the setting you can get away with, the better. that will still allow for your lightning fast blows.lol

if the bass player is triggering your pads, you would probably have better luck increasing the trigger sensitivity value.

Threshold is the setting which prevents unwanted triggering from external sources if you raise it slightly. Mask time is to prevent double triggering from beater bounce, and sensitivity can only reduce (or increase) volume level from a given trigger but not prevent the trigger from occurring.
