  • Help needed! Roland Td-6 Module - no sound

I recently had my td-6 shipped from Ireland to a new address in the Czech Republic and there is now no sound coming from either the headphone or stereo output . It powers up ok (orange light and everything) and functions perfectly apart from the lack of sound. Master volume is at 87. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

I was thinking it could be related to the fact that I am using a 300ma 9V dc adapter when roland actually specify 1000ma for the td-6. It was working fine in Ireland but possibly the increased voltage here (220V in Ireland, 250V here) has something to do with it? I have pretty much zero knowledge of such things however...What do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance!

Does the TD-6 have local control function, if so is it on or off?

I would seriously look at getting a bigger mains adapter, 1000mA is actually 1A, and your current (<---see what I did there) supply is only giving about a third of that.

      Thanks for replying .

Sorry not sure exactly what a local control function is, but i have gone through all the module settings and was unable to find anything that looked like it could be the culprit..

I ordered a new adapter off ebay 2 weeks ago but it has yet to arrive . Do you think that the lower amps could have this kind of effect?

Local Control is at SETUP, MIDI COMMON and is worth checking (if you don't just want to do a Factory Reset at SETUP, UTILITY) as it would silence everything if switched OFF.

Thanks, checked it and it's on. Tried factory reset also, just for good measure, no joy .

Have you played with your knob?

You don't have the new power adapter yet? You could try increasing Master Volume to 127 at KIT, EDIT, COMMON. And that setting is not global so if it had any effect you would need to increase it in every kit.

No don't have it yet, damn those ebay power sellers . Tried the master volume but no luck. There is no sound when I play the module's preloaded songs either, are they also affected by the master volume? I do however still hear that crackling sound when I plug the headphones in, which gives me some hope..

I saw a 700ma 9v adapter in a shop yesterday, might buy it tomorrow seeing as it looks like this ebay thing will never arrive. Are 1000ma 9v dc adapters commonly used for other devices? No one seems to have them, at least not in the Czech Republic.

Cheers again for your suggestions so far though.

seems the adapter is not the problem..

I finally got the new adapter, but unfortunately it made no difference.

I think the module must have taken a knock in transit, which perhaps dislodged a soldered wire or something.

I'm thinking I will probably have to send it away to get repaired and I was wondering if you guys know how much this is likely to cost? Also, do you think I will have to send it back to roland themselves or would a regular electronics repair place be able to handle it? I have no warranty as I bought the module second hand (ex display).

I tried opening up the module the other day (in the hope that it is in fact just a dislodged wire that I could resolder) but the output jacks are underneath the main circuit board and I couldn't get to them because of two white multi-wire tapes (any way these can be disconnected safely?) that I presume connect the input circuit board to the output one. Anyone know of any other way I can get to them?

I would ask Roland what the maximum Current Draw is on the TD-6 is, if you have a multimeter you can do a simple current draw test. It's ok to go higher (2000ma) as it only draws what it needs but if it's smaller it means it may not be able to supply enough current to make normal operation possible for the module, If your voltage is incorrect for the power supply that is worse, you create heat in the power supply, it's dangerous. You probably haven't damaged the module plugging it in. Can I suggest you get a correctly rated power supply before doing anything else.
                        Nothing of importance here

The adapter I have just bought puts out 1500ma 9v, the module requires 1000ma 9V. It's also rated for the mains voltage here in the Czech Republic (250V). But the problem remains , which leads me to think there must actually be something wrong with the output jacks themselves, a dislodged wire perhaps (hopefully nothing more serious!).

I have a similar problem. I tried to perform and update on my TD6 module. It ended up giving me a blank screen that I could not fix, until I retried the update. That fixed the screen. I didn't test it after that, but went on to load a Back-Up I had for my TD-6V and went to test it out...NO SOUND...thru earphones or Outputs (L/R)!!! I tried a Factory reset twice...no help. Any other suggestions? I assume the Factory reset fixes any midi settings I may have tampered with? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
                            Thanks

Oh...in addition...I had removed the battery inside originally to try and fix the blank screen issue...could that have wiped out something. Is there maybe an original File I need to download?
