  • TD9-SX Cymbals Double Triggering

Hey everyone, figured this would be the best forum to get info on my Roland set.

All three cymbals attached to my TD9-SX are double-triggering randomly, about 1/10th of the time. I have a CY-5, a CY-8, and a CY-12R/C, and I've tried changing the mask time, checking for cross chatter, and decreasing the sensitivity of the sensors.

I'm using the set to play Rock Band and it's really screwing up my combos if I try to play with the cymbals!

If you have any ideas, please let me know!

    Welcome!

Do you have a loud speaker nearby, or is this through headphones?

Does it also happen if you play only one of those cymbals but no drum pads at the same time?

This is through headphones, and it's not just the sound triggering twice, on the scope I get two marks for one hit of the cymbal. And yeah, it happens even testing the cymbals one at a time. I also tried tightening the clamp mounts because at first I thought the cymbal was triggering the second time on the rebound from the initial hit.

I wonder if you might have the cables stretched too tightly and cymbal movement on the cables could be causing the occasional second triggers?

The Retrig Cancel setting might help to eliminate the double triggers, but it's unusual that it would need to be changed from defaults on a brand new kit. Perhaps a factory reset would be better, or changing the trigger types to something different and then back to the correct ones which would reset trigger settings to defaults.

I'll give all those suggestions a try when I get home from work, and let you know. Thanks for the quick response!

            sickfallout,

Sorry, I don't have any feedback on your issue (however the eventual solution does interest me).

My question is more specifically about how you play Rock Band with your TD-9? Can you trigger through the Roland or are you just following along?

            Thanks, Phil.

I don't know how he's doing it, but I have a project box with a midi to usb converter that plus into my playstation. Some people have projects boxes hat they plug their pads directly into (similiar to the ION Drumrocker brain)... I avoided that route myself because I didn't want to consantly be plugging/unplugging my pads from my TD-9 to a project box. If you look on the rockband forums there are numerous sets of plans available out there, plus there are 3 or 4 guys selling premade boxes using one of the methods above. The J-5 box (http://rockbandkickbox.com/store/ind...iewCat&catId=2), MidiRocker (http://www.bytearts.com/midi/index.htm), and "Seth's Adapter (http://www.rockband.com/users/sethmeisterg/comments) are a few choices out there... or you can always build your own.

Sorry, I haven't been able to do much testing lately, although I tried all the suggestions in here and I'm still having the problem.

Also, for those interested in how I hooked them up, I just followed this blog FAQ to the letter, and it works great (except for my cymbal problem )
