metronome time signature default

When I first bought my TD-10 a few years back, the time signature defaulted to 4/4 at power up. Sometime in the past 6 months, the default changed to 5/4. How can I change it back to 4/4?

I did have a Yamaha DTX, and one feature I did like was in their metronome. You could check you time for accuracy against a tempo. If I recall correctly it would display back a percentage figure on your accuracy. Is there anything like this hidden in the TD-10?

Other than your own ears or a respected listener, is there any product, like the DTX did, that gives you feedback on your time accurancy?

Nope, no feature in the TD-10 to give you an idea how accurate your timing is.

Regarding the 5/4 vs. 4/4 - What kit comes up when you first turn on the TD-10, and is the pattern associated with that beat a 5/4 pattern?

My TD-10 turns on in Kit 1, and if I start the metronome the time signature, as I mentioned is in 5/4.

right, I understand. But you know that cheesy sequencer that plays Patterns? If you press play, is that pattern a 5/4 pattern? If so, try changing the Pattern associated with that Kit.

I realize that this is different than what you are asking for but one way to check your accuracy is to use the sequencer to record yourself playing (quantize OFF!) along with a click and then play the sequence and click track back REALLY, REALLY slow! Any little deviation at 120 bpm will be greatly exagerated in playback at 30 bpm.

Louis solved this one! It was the cheezy sequencer that I probably had set up in 5/4 at one time and forgot about it. Grrrr..

Thanks to Rythmstik for the link to the Beat Bug. I ended up ordering one for $75, including shipping. My concern is if it will work on the snare mesh head. It does come with a 10 day return though. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to use the snare trigger output to the beat bug input.

beatbug is great

I forgot about this post! But anyway, the beat bug works great on the V snare. I wish I had it sooner. It's very accurate from one beat to the next. It does not average. It's a real challenge to stay at a specific tempo. Even harder is to establish a tempo, look away for awhile , then look at the digital readout again to see if you are still on

One of the best ways to spend $75.

If you want to learn to play better time, you have to use your ears and not your eyes IMHO...

I believe during that process you are using your ears, and then later confirming tempo drift, if any, with what the digital readout is feeding back to you.

Ok, ok, in that way it works. Only not if you're looking constantly to the Beatbug, (or anything that monitors your time). Have fun with it.
