  • TD9 and CY-12R/C issues

    Hi everybody,
this is my first post so, first of all, thank you for the help. I've bought an used CY-12R/C pad that I'm using with my Roland TD9. What I've done was simply change from CY8 to CY-12R/C and put both the cables into the edge and bell holes (the one from the CY8 into the edge and the RDB into the bell). I've played almost 5 minutes without any issues (kit 1) then, suddenly, the ride played as I choke it (I mean a really short and interrupted sound), no more bell (even hitting it hard). Because sometimes my TD9 lose a crash sound (I mean hitting the crash I don't receive the sound) is there a possibility that I've a broken TD9? I read about CY-12R/C issues about its bell but in my case it seems a bit different. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Does this mean you changed the trigger settings in the module as well? If the module still thinks that a CY8 is plugged in, you may get funky and unexpected results. And make sure the plugs are snapped ALL the way in.

about losing the crash, first, as Colq says, make sure the cables are tightly attached (dont laugh, I thought my snare cable was firmly in, and it wasnt, which led to strange results)...then, try swapping another pad to that cable to see if there is still a problem..in the same way, switch the pad to another input, to see if the problem remains...then you can see if the problem is with the pad or possibly the cable...

Yes, I've set the right pad in the setup. I'll try to do what you suggested me but I'm confident about cables... They are plugged well. About the RD cable, the CY-8 used before had never give me issues. Maybe the RDB cable... But how can I test it? I read about the unique way to test it is using the CY-12R/C pad...

            Hi guys,
I've tried to unplug the RDB cable and the pad worked well. I tried to invert cables and the bell is played well when I hit the edge but again no edge sound when I play the rim. Looking for the setup, on the top-right corner, where I can see the played part of the pad, I cannot see RIM label, never! I can't figure out if there is a problem to TD9 or the pad is broken. What do you think?
            THanks

If the bell sounds fine with the RDB cable in the edge output, then I think the bell switch may have a loose connection inside the CY-12R/C. Perhaps you should take it apart from the bottom to check?

                Bruce,
are you suggesting me to use the tutorial to modify it (SuperPuss tutorial)? I don't think so because other than that issue I have a undesidered choke effect, the ride stops to play even if I haven't choke the pad
                Thanks

No, I was suggesting that you check internal connections as it seems like your bell output isn't working except to choke the cymbal. That could also be caused by rubber debris on the switch inside. Whatever it is, it seems fairly certain that the fault is inside the cymbal not the module.
