  • Power and volume for on stage,HELP!

I know nothing about amps and speakers for my v drum. Someone told me get a keyboard amp, then I went to Daddys and the guy said get this 500 watt powered speaker a QSC HPR 122I.It sounded super loud with their pumped in store music.Well $800 bucks later that night I turn the speaker up to max and my brain up to max and my guitarist on 1 could still over power me.I called up Guitar center and talked to a guy in audio,He said get a Roland kc550 and that would be loud enough to compete on stage. What do you guys think? I hope they take it back without a stink.

Watts are always a tricky business. Especially when they don't mention how they measure them. How did you connect your drums? Did you use a DI? You may just not be sending the proper signal to the speaker.

The advantage to something like the KC550 is that it is designed with instruments in mind and has the proper gain stages. The trick is whether at 185Watts it will be loud enough.

        I have had a KC-550 for about 5 years.
As a personal monitor its okay. I use it for that every other weekend.

You will get left in the dust by a good 15 watt guitar tube amp though on stage.
If everyone is being "reasonalble" we can play in small rooms with my KC-550.
Otherwise get something with more power in my opinion.

The B-52 Matrix 1000 or 2000 would be the system i'd get if I were not using my acoustics so much lately.

          KC-550 Monitor

I have to agree with Pat on the KC-550. It works well as a monitor, but wouldn't cut it for performances unless it was a pretty small room. Any time we get frisky with the volume knobs, the lower-end starts to break-up...

              I found the problem

I called the tech guys at QSC and they said the brain cord needs to go into a mixer (which fortuantely I have) then an XLR out to the powered speaker. Now I have the 400 watts and 3 volume controls 1. the brain 2. the board 3.the speaker and lows, mids, and highs on the board. thanks again guys
