Lots of Pads confusing? or is it me?

I have just started to max the inputs on my TD-8 so I am going to be condensing things a bit by using the method mentioned so many times here! Problem is now things are not going to correlate to the name of the inputs as such? I guess this is a minor detail but I am concerned about the volume faders on the top panel not corisponding to the right triggers. I think I will be condensing four toms down to two inputs and the three cymbals to separate inputs. If I add a cymbal to the third tom input wont the volume fader have an effect?
I might be overthinking this a bit but I will be playing out live with this baby and I want to have it all solid.
