TD-9 vs TD12

Hi all :-)

I am interested in buying an e-drum set, and I am thinking between TD-9 and TD-12 sound module. I have never played drum in my life (I am guitar player) and as you can understand I need it for home use only. One of my question is the following:

I have visited a friend of mine, owner of TD-9. While he was showing his drum set, he showed me a function, that shows on the LCD the timing that he hits the drums, so he can see after his play if he hits the right time, or not.

I have downloaded the manual of TD-12 and i didn't find this function.

Can you confirm that this function does not exist on TD-12, or not?

Welcome to the forums!

The function is called scope and is only on the td-9. i find it VERY useful for learning timing. The backing tracks also can be muted (ie you can turn off the drums OR the music and leave the drums, then slow them real down to learn them) much more easily in the td-9.

People argue about which has better sounds, but the 12 has more inputs and more flexibility. However, for a beginner who only wants to practice on it, the td-9 is very very good and i recommend it, though you should get VEXpacks http://www.vexpressionsltd.com/as the kits that come with it arent that good. The same thing is true for the 12 though.

Where are you from then, as you say your english isnt so good - we have people from all over here!

You suggest me to cancel my first thought and buy the cheaper but newbie friendly TD-9. Plz tell me about the sound quallity. Is it much worst than the TD-12? If I learn playing some basic rythms and songs will I need to buy something better or not?

Hello!

We have some people from Greece earlier on this forum. you are not alone!

You should really go to a shop and compare yourself the sounds of the 9 vs the 12, because as I said, people here on the forum disagree about it. I think the 9, esp with the VEX packs, sounds really good. It is newer than the 12, and has better basic sounds, but the 12 offers more tweakability through its COSM. And more inputs, so you can have more pads with the 12.

People often ask to compare the 9 and the 12, there are other threads you can search for to read more. But I would think as a beginner, a newbie, and someone who isnt at first going to record or gig with the module, that the 9 is very good. and again, the scope and the mute functions are great.

I think people who have the 9 agree wth me, and people who have the 12 or the 20 would say, no no, get the biggest module you can. I say, get the 9, and if you keep drumming in two/three years, the brand-new TD 30 will appear, so you could either get that, or buy a cheap 20 that someone is selling because THEY bought the 30...

anyway, happy drumming in any case

a nice kit! you went top class with the fancy hi hat and the mesh pads for toms...

but for christmas, you will need to get one more cymbal and then either one MORE cymbal or a 4th tom. Wanting more is called GAS, and We All Have It Here!

No problems...I have all that on a MDS-6 rack! and i even have room for a couple more, but no more inputs

I am in the same situation as you.... just bought a td9 last saturday and i am also totally new to drumming. This set is great.... it has more then enough to offer us for the next years
