  • Getting the most out the dyanmic range of TD20

One of the issues using edrums in my opinion is the very small dynamical range of my TD 20. What I mean is it does not take much force to make the sensor max out. What have others done to best take advantage of the dynamic range. Any settings or techniques others have used to get the most out of the dynamic or volume range of the pads?

    Thanks!

Make sure to check out the trigger settings for each pad.

Make sure that each trigger in the bank is correctly labeled with its model number.

Then get into the sensitivity and turn it down as low as you can while still being able to play comfortably.

Go into the advanced settings and set the scan time as low as you an while still getting an even volume while hitting the pad with evenly strong hits.

Try bringing an acoustic drum next to you and modeling the sensitivities after the drum.

The vdrum will never be as sensitive as the acoustic drum, but the vdrum can trigger an infinite number of drastically different samples. So... it can be a worthwhile endeavor.

    Good luck!

Larrio has it spot on. I think by default they set the trigger settings very high so people sitting down at them sound loud and consistent. Almost a sales gimmick.

        An alternate route:
I started using smaller and lighter sticks when I first began playing electronics some 25 years ago. There just wasn't any reason to hit as hard. I use the Bruford signature maple from Pro-Mark, a smidge smaller than a 5A and the maple makes all the difference.

There are side benefits as well.
