PD-85 rim triggering problem with TD-12

Hi all

I have two PD-85 as toms. There is no problem with head triggers but rim triggers don't work properly. When I hit the rim, it generally sounds like a weird "tick" but don't create the original rim sound which I can hear when I pressed the "preview" button on the module. Interestingly; there are some points on the rim which creates the original sound that exactly same with the preview button creates. But what I generally hear is the weird "tick" sound. It looks like my PD-85s are three-way triggering pads because of head-rim-weird rim sounds

I assigned a diffirent instrument (e.g.cowbell) to the rim for being able to see how much efficient rim piezo works. The results were better than the original rim instrument loaded before. I mean it gave up to create the weird "tick" sound anymore.

I tried to change the advanced trigger settings like rim gain and threshold but it didn't result well enough. I also tried to increase the whole sensitivity of the pad but that sure increased the sensitivity of the head so that couldn't be the solution.

I also have three PD-105 pads for one snare and two toms and don't have any problem with their rim triggers.

There are meant to be several sounds available from TD-12 tom rims with nearly all tom rim sounds (marked *P on Page 89), because they use positional sensing to provide normal and shallow rim shots (Page 22). If you don't like the effect you could switch it off at SETUP, MIDI (F1), CTRL (F3) by changing Toms CC from GENERAL3(18) to OFF.

The preview button would not reproduce the positional variations. Perhaps you don't notice the same thing on the PD-105 toms because they are not set to the correct trigger type (PD105 instead of PD80R)?

You could also try setting the trigger types for the PD-85 toms at TRIGGER, BANK to something else like PD-105 and then setting them back to PD80R, which will restore their basic and advanced trigger settings to defaults for those pads.

Setting Toms CC to off solved the problem.

But I didn't understand what do you mean with setting triggers to PD80R ? I couldn't find PD80R among pad types ?

Yep, sorry. There's a mistake in the TD-12 manual. In the table on Page 44 they show PD80R as the correct setting for a PD-85. Yet the screenshot to the left shows PD85. I think they forgot to update the table with a late change, and I got fooled again
