  • TD-9 Midi usage

    Hi

I'm using the TD-9 module in our band and we also have a keyboardist using programed samples. The audio processor we use for the samples has a MIDI out and I am trying to work out a way that I can hear a click-track from his samples.

I am wondering if it's possible to have the Midi running from his sampler into the TD-9 module and then my headphones hearing the clicktrack, with my drums only going out of the line-out on the module.

sounds very confusing i know, but i'm not sure what to do exactly. Is there a way you can split and choose what sounds come through the headphones and what goes out the line-out? or is that always the same?

    Cheers

I only had my TD9 a couple of days, and it seems that the line out and the headphones out is the same source, and not separable.

As far as I know, the headphones output is always the same as the main outputs, there aren't any routing paths on the TD-9. The only solution would be to mix in the click track between your headphones and the TD-9 by using a small mixer.

Edit: I just found a possible solution, but it means having a mono drum mix output...

On the TD9 press 'shift' and 'click' to get to the metronome settings, and pan the metronome click all the way to the right. Then pan the kit all the way to the left. Now you can send the 1/4" left/mono output to the PA and the click will appear in your right ear. Ok maybe not a great solution, but unless you want to spend some more cash on a cheap sound module and just use it for metronome...

The only problem with using the Left output like that (on any Roland module) is that it's Left OR MONO. If nothing is plugged into the Right channel then the Left will output the combined Left and Right channels in Mono. You would either need to use a dummy plug in the Right output, or reverse the idea and use only the Right output with the click panned Left and the kit panned Right.
