Depends on what you want it for.

to my mind, for a splash or a crash, the 8 is quite ok. the 12 is far superior as a ride, for one thing, it has 3 way triggering with the added bell sound. It also subjectively to me feels better, a little softer, and less stick on rubber sound.

Yes, I even turned down the volume of the cymbals on the hodge podge kits because they were a little too loud to my taste. I can really recommend the VEX kits, they bring out the best of your TD-9. To be honest, I've almost only been playing the Toolbox kits since I've got them, they're great! Favourites: Metal (3), Mild (7), Retro (20), AlterEGO (22), Believer (28) and User Kit (31).

Edit: I edited my post, now it's much more informative. Or not. It depends on what you already know. Or would like to know.

I ran it to the Aux. input on the TD-9 module

    At $49.00 it's pretty affordable
Great....now I feel the G.A.S. building up....might just pull the trigger on that!
    Thanks! *urp*

remember, you can assign ANY sound to ANY pad - so if you dont like the assigned sound, just switch instruments...though you can always use more cowbell....

I would also go for a fourth tom, if you use two crashes and a ride...

I have added an additional crash and a KD-120 kick (same as Col ^^^^^). Next thing is a PD-125 snare

Yes, VEX (www.vexpressionsltd.com) makes to packs for the TD9, ToolBox and Hodge Podge. Now, these are not new sounds, but they have taken the time to tweak the module to sound simply stunning. I have had the TD9 for a few months and have fooled around quite a bit, and was floored by the sound of the VEX packs.
