  • TD-9 What To Add To It

    Hi all,

I have just bought a TD-9 with Mesh heads. I have the Iron Cobra kick pedal also.

I am wandering what you would suggest to add to it? Maybe a better High Hat? Maybe some more Cymbals?

    Any advice would be welcomed.

More cymbals are always a good place to start. I think the SPD-S is a great add-on for any kit as well.

It really all depends on how much money you want to blow. After all, a TD-20 is a great "add-on" to any kit as well.

    Best of luck.

What does that Sampler enable you to accomplish?

My recommendation is first add an extra cymbal. Just plug it in the module and it automatically maps it as an extra different cymbal in all the kits.
I also upgraded the kick to a KD-120, but this is a really personal thing, as I like the feel of an open acoustic kick.. My next upgrade will most likely be the VH11... or a larger snare and then move the pd-105 to the floor tom position.
Also, don't forget the VEX packs for the TD9. The Hodge Podge pack is a bunch of acoustic kits, and the ToolBox is a bunch of new kits for a variety of situations. They really sound better than the stock TD9 kits.

So the VEX packs = Toolbox?

Im gonna order that Hi hat- TBH as i am learning i use the Hi Hat alot, and I find the one that comes with the TD-9 to be a little weak. What ya think?

Yes, VEX (www.vexpressionsltd.com) makes to packs for the TD9, ToolBox and Hodge Podge. Now, these are not new sounds, but they have taken the time to tweak the module to sound simply stunning. I have had the TD9 for a few months and have fooled around quite a bit, and was floored by the sound of the VEX packs.

I have added an additional crash and a KD-120 kick (same as Col ^^^^^). Next thing is a PD-125 snare

I would also go for a fourth tom, if you use two crashes and a ride...

I just added a Hart Hammer Percussion Pad to my TD-9

It's perfect to assign a cowbel to or some other percussion instrument or sound effect you might need for a song

I ran it to the Aux. input on the TD-9 module

                    At $49.00 it's pretty affordable

How does this extra cymbal sound compared to the left cymbal and the crash on the TD9.... on my first drumlesson i learned to do simple fillins and end them with a big bang on a cymbal but i find that all the kits on the TD9 dont have that spashing sound i am looking for when i hit the cymbal..... i hope this extra cymbal, which is standard mapped by the TD9 sound spashier then the left symbal or a big hit of the standard crash on the right side.

remember, you can assign ANY sound to ANY pad - so if you dont like the assigned sound, just switch instruments...though you can always use more cowbell....

Peter, the default kits of the TD-9 don't have very impressive crashes or cymbals. But you can crank up the kit volume (F1,F2,F3 should always be a 100 if you ask me) and turn up the cymbal volume (F1,F2,F1). Also try fiddeling with the ambience and eq settings (F1,F3,F1 to F3).
