  • Roland FD 8 to TD-8 Module Connection

    Hi,

I'm new to this forum having just purchased a Roland TD-8 module which I have connected to a full mesh Jobeky drum kit.
I have a couple of questions which I would like ask your advice on:

I have just purchased a used Roland FD8 Hi-Hat Control pedal from ebay, I wanted an FD7 but as always when your looking there never available.
This pedal has no manual so I would like to know what sort of lead to use to connect to the TD-8 module ie: is it a stereo or mono 1/4 plug ?

Also, you are able to choose the types of triggers for the drum kit, I did not mess with this as I'm not sure what I'm doing but I have plugged in my Jobeky drums and everything seems to work, do I need to worry about trigger types ?

Sorry to sound so dumb but its all very new to me.

Thank for your help in advance

All good gteps....and welcome to the forum! The FD-8 cable is monaural.

You can get a manual for it if you need one here:

The Global website of Roland Corporation, a leading manufacturer and distributor of electronic musical instruments, including keyboards and synthesizers, guitar products, electronic percussion, digital recording equipment, amplifiers, audio processors, and multimedia products.

As to trigger type, I wouldn't know what they are for those drums, but I know that Hart had recommended a specific trigger type selection for their pads. If Jobeky doesn't have any specific recommendations, you might initially set them as the default and see how things work out. Then if they don't seem right, then change trigger type to the closest Roland equivalent. To be honest, even with Hart's recommended trigger type setting, I still found myself tweaking, so there you go. But definitely check with the manufacturer to see if they have recommnded settings. It will make tweaking easier as you will have a good starting place.

      Hi Fullback32,

Thanks for your help and advice, I have now dowloaded the FD8 manual but its rather basic to say the least.

I will contact the Jobeky drums guy as you mentioned and see if he has any specific trigger settings when using Roland modules.

Again thanks for your help and thank you for the forum welcome.

      Kind Regards

Yeah, it's not very helpful is it. You know, I hadn't heard of those Jobeky's before, so I went over to their website and took a look. Nice looking drums! How do they play?

          FullBack32,

The website doesn't do these drums justice, although I given to understand that Colin who is Jobeky drums is soon to have a new website up and running with lots of new kit on show.

They are top quality, well made, great looking and real value for money, they play and feel brilliant.
