Compression & EQ settings

I've been playing with the various parameters (TD12) and it seems to me that besides the 'gain' feature, the other values don't change the overall sound to any extent. Is anyone actutally changing the frequencies, atck, time, and thre values?
I also play a Yamaha DTX3 and hear more changes when I change its associated parameters. Right now I'm trying to decide which kit I want to keep. BTW, the DTX3 does now pretty good. I like each for different reasons, but really need only one kit.

I believe the compessor is a pretty sophistcated unit on the TD12. Both the compressor and EQ can really add to the overall sound and dynamics of the kit.

After messing around with this for a while I picked up a VEX pack and have not touched it since. I let the experts do the tweaking now! (let's not have the discussion about leaving the drum playing up to the experts tho!

Yes the Vex packs are pretty good. I really just want to understand these parameters better. I know the manual says this and that but I just don't see ( or hear) any changes when I experiment, especially when I want to get rid of that resonant boomy sound on my lower toms.

Are the Comp and EQ switches for the entire kit ON at KIT, FX SW (F4)?

An individual pad can show CMP ON and EQ ON even when the kit switches are off, and just changing settings does not automatically switch them (or AMB/MFX) on for the kit.

(Although switching COMP/EQ/AMB/MFX off then back on for a pad will switch them on for the kit too.)

Yes the switches are on-the tabs are black with white letters. The gain is the only parameter than I can really hear a difference in. Oh well.

I can send you a sysex file that shows you how NOT to set these, but i doubt that will be helpfull . Take some settings and set them from one end of the spectrum to the other. You will hear the difference. On the compressor set it to expander with high gain and then to snare 1 compressor.
