  • Trouble setting up Roland VH11 hi-hat...

Hey all... new TD12 owner here. All is fantastic, but I'm getting some grief with the VH11 hi-hat. When I go from closed hi-hat to open, the machine seems not to keep up with me, so very often the open hit I thought I was going to get still sounds like a closed one.

I have checked and rechecked the set-up, and the 3mm gap (how the hell are you supposed to be able to estimate 3mm?!?!?!?).

It just seems sometimes as though it's slow to respond after I've released the pedal.

Is this just something I have live with or is there a trick that I'm missing?

    Thanks for any help!

    All the best,

    Martin

    Two things to try:
Try changing the VH-11 offset to slightly higher than the black arrows so that the motion sensor doesn't have to move so far before it registers a change. You will have to tweak this to make sure that you can still get a closed sound when you depress the pedal.

If you have a hat stand with a weak spring then it may not be able to cope with the weight of the hats. If you can adjust the spring tension, then set it to maximum.
