Vdrum library/Vexpressions question

Hi All,

I recently purchased a TD12K after not having played drums since high school.
I am having lots of fun.. and best of all I am not disturbing anyone!

Question......I just bought A Vexpack, for the TD20, I have a TD12, but purchased that for the 4th tom and aux. cymbal expansion. My question is, on my Vdrum library do I chose the TD20 or TD12 option?

Hey zep, I just emailed you back.

For others, here you go...

Open VDL and save a backup of your current setup. Copy the "setup info" to the right side. Next, choose TD-12 and then drop our TD0 file in the left window. It will ask you how you would like to map the instruments. Then, save the new file before sending it to the module.

You need to convert the TD-20 kits to TD-12 format, first. So, you choose TD-12 in VDrumLib, then you follow the steps on the following page:

Once the kits have been converted, you can them copy the kits to a new library that can be sent via MIDI to your TD-12. Instructions for copying kits and saving a new library can be found on this page:

NOTE: You cannot send the TD-20 file from VEX via MIDI. You can attempt to send it, but it will not work because it is not a MIDI file.

Are there any settings needed on the TD12 module to accept the midi transfer...cuz I've been trying to transfer my TD20 backup to the TD12 using Vdrumlib (trial) and everything is fine , but it won't transfer. I am a Vista user and I am using a Mid-USB interface, which has always worked for my TD-6. Thanks

No, there aren't any settings needed on the module. But did you select TD-12 at the top of VDrumLib before opening the TD-20 file, so that you get asked if you wish to convert? And then copy them to a new library and save as a new file before sending via MIDI? (The two links above have full instructions with screenshots.)

The only setting that you might want to check is the MIDI Device ID which should be set to 17. The factory default is 17 for all Roland TD modules, including your TD-6 and your TD-12.

Other things to check are:
1) Make sure that you have the module selection in VDrumLib set to TD-12, not TD-20!
2) You must convert the TD-20 backup to TD-12 format. You cannot transmit a the unconverted TD-20 backup to your TD-12. Here are the instructions for converting:

3) What does your TD-12 display when you are trying to transmit? It should display something if it is receiving the Data. If it doesn't display anything, then try swapping the cables.
4) Which MIDI-USB cable are you using? Are you sure you have the latest driver for that cable. TD-12 data packets are considerably larger than TD-6 data packets and some MIDI adapters can't handle the large data packets.

Yes...it's the same adapter, but it works...just doesn't get recognized on my Vista Computer....I'll try the laptop that has XP...It's a generic adapter....anyway to download a generic driver for it (for vista)?? :0(

What do you mean by this? Are you saying that you didn't get the "new hardware found" wizard when you plugged it in for the first time? Or, did it recognize it, but say "no driver found"? Or, is it some other symptom that I you haven't told us, yet?

any way to download a generic driver for it (for vista)?? :0(

The generic driver is included with with Vista, so you don't have to download it. But, even if you did download it, it still won't help if Vista cannot detect that you have plugged in new hardware. Of course I'm only guessing that Vista isn't recognizing the hardware because I don really know exactly what you mean by Vista not "recognizing" your adapter.
