kd-7 and DM pro

recently picked up a kd-7 and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with this unit and the DM pro...

this is a previously owned kick trigger..

I even had Peter Hart on the phone and we couldnt get the thing to capture all the triggered hits..

Is there a compatibilty problem here??

any help would be appreciated....

My friend is using home made triggers on his DM3 module. Just uses old piezzoelectric buzzers from old telephones. It works.
The KD7 is also using this buzzer and it should work. However, you mentioned that the KD7 is used which may be the key. For the KD7 I and a lot of others find has a serious design problem. After some use the solders inside the little circuit board inside the KD7 crack up and break and you'll lose the sensitivity if not all the sound from this trigger. 2 things you can try,
1.take out the little circuit board inside and check the solders, and resolder if you see any cracks.
2. Try the KD7 on a TD* module to see if it works there, if you dont see problems with the circuit board. If it does, then it's some other problem with the DM Pro...

I use a KD7 with a DMPro and I have noticed that I sometimes have miss triggering. The KD is about 2 years old. I think I'll take it apart and take a look at the solder points.

Even if you don't see solder cracks, but you still have missed hits, (mistriggering may be another issue) you may want to try melting the solders with a soldering gun and resoldering. Even if they don't appear cracked, they still may have lost the connection. I had tried this a number of times in the past and it works.

Also, it is a good idea to take out the little circuit board in the KD7 and put it in a separate box away from the KD7 unit to isolate it from the impacts. I did this and since then did not have to do any further resoldering. I am using a modified Tama Camco with a straight beater bar and slightly heavier beater so this idea does work.

I've had some problems in the past regarding missed kick triggers,
including while borrowing a kd-7 ( I normally use 2 S&S Stealth kick
triggers). My problem turned out to be the crosstalk filtering on the dm pro.
This can be a tricky thing to set up. To see if this is your problem, try disabling ALL crosstalk on the dm pro, on ALL triggers... be careful to follow the procedure in the manual while you are busy disabling all of the triggers' crosstalk, as there is a "matrix" filter that dynamically "listens to" all the other triggers when you set a crosstalk setting for any given drum. So whacking on any of your triggers while setting these up can interfere with this
disabling process.

Sometimes what happens is that a crash cymbal trigger(or any other) input will think that your kick that happens at the same time as a crash cymbal (like on beat "ONE" after a drum fill) is just
crosstalk, and so the dm pro cancels the kick trigger because it thinks the kick trigger is just being activated by the mechanical shock of the simultaneous crash cymbal being struck. If this turns out to be your problem, it may be best to simply disable all crosstalk filtering and leave it disabled.

The kd-7 will work with the dm pro. The one I used, I borrowed because my S&S's were missing hits. The kd missed about the same
amount. I called alesis and they told me about the crosstalk settings. After removing crosstalk filtering, no more missed kicks.(if there is a slotted volume control inside the kd-7, you may need to rotate the control fully clockwise, for maximum sensitivity).

The Kaptain later disclosed that the problem with his kd-7 was most likely the piezo faulting out, as this was a used kd-7...
