Can I use a cy14c as a hi-hat?

Can I use a cy14c as a hi-hat? There are 2 reasons why I am asking.
1) The bow of the cymbal seems alot lower in volume than the edge when hooked to the hi-hat input. Is there a sensitivity adjustment for both edge and bow on the Hi-hat settings? Or any other settings I can do to even them out?
2) I have the cymbal tighter on the stand so it dont move as much as it does when it is getting used as a cymbal. Will this damage that plastic in the center of the cymbal where it rocks back and forth.

You can use any pad you like for the hi hat. It's all personal preference.

You need to state which module you are using.

Less movement is less likely to damage the cymbal mount.

The price of a CY-14 is almost approaching that of a VH-11...

Sorry about that. I have a roland TD 8. But it is not updated. I use PD 9 for the settings for the cymbals ,ride and hats . I tried the 12B setting for the hat and it seemed to pull the settings a little closer.

The cymbal is not to tight. But it is tighter than when it is used as a cymbal. I have felt on top and bottom.

A TD-8 only has a rim sensitivity setting for a mesh snare (unlike later modules which have rim gain for all inputs and pad types). So there's no global way to balance volume between the bow and edge of the hi-hat. But in the MIXER for each kit you can adjust volume level of head and rim independently. And on a TD-8 you can copy mixer settings from one kit to another (which you can't do on more recent modules).
