Hey folks, I imagine this question has come up before, but I couldn't find a similar thread in my searches. I've played drums for a long time, but never electronics. I'm considering purchasing an e-kit for various reasons, including the size, relative quiet, and flexibility.
My main concern, though, is having the ability to load my own playable samples onto the kit. Whether it's a drum sound I recorded myself, or a weird clip I downloaded somewhere, or any other kind of audio file (wav, aiff, mp3, whatever works), I'd like to be able to load them onto the module and assign them to pads to play with.
I was looking at the TD-9 or TD-6 kits and assumed they would have this option, but when I e-mailed Roland customer support with the question, I received a flat response: 'You cannot load user samples into the TD-6 or TD-9.' Maybe I worded my question to them badly, but that answer doesn't leave a lot of room for interpretation.
I know this must be possible, but maybe only on the bigger, pricier modules (TD-12, -20)? Do I need an additional interface, whether it's MIDI or some other program I can purchase and load on my computer? Are there cheaper workarounds? Any ideas/recommendations?
If this is too tech-specific, I can re-post in the 'Technical' forum. Likewise, if this question has been asked/answered before and someone could point me to the relevant thread it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
